Worth It

I currently have an ECS 755-a2 (got it a fry's a week ago with an AMD 64 3000+) for $200 and I was wondering how much better of a board the MSI K8T Neo Fsr is compared to my current board. I am asking because in the Fry's ad today it said AMD 64 3000+ and an MSI board for $189. I went in to see what board it was and they said they made a mistake and meant for it to be the ECS. But they said they would give me the MSI instead so I bought it. So my question is how much better is the MSI board cmpared to the ECS board. I will be overclocking. If the MSI is better I will return the ECS board.

In case anyone needs this these are the two boards.

ECS

MSI

I've had nothing but bad luck with ECS/Elitegroup boards. I've used the MSI board that you're referring to, and I really enjoyed it while I had it (it was a customer's board). I almost bought that MSI board, but the Asus board I bought was very similar and much cheaper.

I'd go MSI.

BTW, if you do go with the MSI board and you decide to get rid of your ECS, I have a customer looking for a low-end A64 system and I might buy it off of ya 😉

I bought that combo too. The Sis chipsets boards are not known as great overclockers. I would rather have NF3 than whatever SIS has, which is why I demanded the MSI board.

Strange, I see they gave you the KT8 and not the K8N. I got the K8N, but I bought mine at like 9:30AM and they didn't even know they had a misprint until I complained about the ECS board. Still, the K8T is most likely superior to the ECS.

I wish I had gotten the K8N but it was still a great deal. I will go for the MSI board thanks for all the quick replies. Does anyone know if the k8n has a PCI/AGP lock.

K8N is suspose to have the lock. Regarding the topic at hand, since you already have the ECS board, why not try to overclock it? If you fail to reach a reasonable speed, you can try the MSI then.

Good luck.

Oh sorry I forgot to mention I tried overclocking with the ECS. It would only let me get to 2200 mhz. Anything higher would be unstable. This processor should go higher right? I have the CG stepping Newcastle. Plus it gives you no options to raise the memory speed. The highest it will go is 200 mhz for the memory.
