Worth it to keep?

I was having a lot of problems with my 9800 pro 256mb lately with overheating and decided to just go ahead and buy the x800 pro from ati for 199.00. As luck would have it a friend of mine (whom is a big computer hardware nerd) somehow fixed a few of my ram heatsinks or whatever and so now my 9800 is back in working condition. My x800 has not yet arrived so i still have the option of canceling my order.

My question is this: I plan on hopefully upgrading my system fully to pci-express and dual core hopefully next summer. Would keeping the x800 pro give me a much improved gameplay over the 9800pro as to warrent spending the $200 now only to upgrade in 12 months? Or is the differences not that great and should i just return it?

Edit: I am not toooo sure on how big a difference the x800pro over the 9800pro is but i just know that it was a killer deal and i definitly needed a new card (untill now)

It is definitely a noticeable jump from the 9800 to the x800 pro 🙂 It all depends on if you feel your computer performs to your standards in the games you play currently, and if you think you can personally wait until next summer to upgrade

There is a jump, but i dont think i would have upgraded from aa 256mb 9800Pro to an X800Pro. WHile it is noticable by a large margin, i would have held off until next gen mid-range, or bought a minimum of a 6800GT or X800XL. The 9800Pro, believe it or not, is still a very viable card.

As for canceling your order. Take your time, im sure ATI will have that item on back order for months. (Ie: I would cancel, by the time you get it other cards will be a much better option).
