The 5900 is being stressed by Doom 3 even... I doubt a 5200 will hold up well running that game. So if you're buying it for DX9 capabilities, you're better off with something that will work good now. When I buy hardware, I don't usually plan on using it more than 6 months from when I buy it... although with my video card, it's been over a year... my Ti4200... so I've got some good use out of it.

Upgrading from a GF4 Ti4200 minimum I would go with , would be a FX 5600 Ultra card,I would wait until the new FX 5600 Ultra cards which according to Anand should offer some improvement over the older FX 5600 Ultra models.

Yes the longer you can wait the better the prices and choices you`ll have. DX9 games are few and far between at the moment ,so you can really afford to play the waiting game.

4200 hands down, the 5600 is hardly a step up from a 4200 and in many cases the 4200 is probably better. The 5200 is definately a gimicky product meant to drag in gullible users think that the Dx9 card will actually be able to run Dx9 games with respecatble performance.

No. If you need a new card when D3 is released, buy it at that time, not now. By then all cards will have gotten cheaper anyway, so you're saving money in both the short and the long run.

I say hell no. FX5200 is crap. The 4200 out performs it even though 4200 doesnt support DX9. Even if there was DX9 games out on the market now I still wouldnt buy the hunk of junk.

You will not need to buy a DX9 video card for months from now. D3 is not going to be released for at least another 4-8 months and lets not forget its not the only game out there. Save your money for a better card. NV35's at least.

Ugh, It's stressed by the Doom 3 ALPHA. I wish people would stop using the Alpha of D3 as the reason why they are going to buy card X. Alpha software RARELY performs anything like the final Production versions, and IMO, it's a mistake for any review site to use D3 benchmarks for determining card performance.

Carmack has said that lower hardware will be able to run D3 fine, so I'd look to other games for indicators on which card you should buy Gravija.

I thought the bb ad had a typo in the name. The picture and model # show a regular 5200 ... not the "ultra" version.

now would it be worth it for a 5200ultra (may try to get it from best buy or PM at circuit city for 99) vs. a 4200?
