run both, each catches things the other does not and there are not any bad effects of running both (but dont run the scans at the exact same time, i run spybot then adaware)
For scans, they complement eachother to a degree. I usually run one right after the other during bi-weekly sweeps. I probably wouldn't want them resident in memory at the same time, though; AV / anti-malware software tends to not like to cooperate with others of its kind.
