Worth going to DDR?

Right now I am running a kk266 with a Tbird 1400 @ 1600. I've been bitten big time by the upgrade bug, and was just wondering if you thought it was worth going to ddr. I am currently running my sdram at a 160 bus at cas2. If you do think it is worth it, what programs would I notice running faster? I am limited in my games by my radeon se VIVO (I want to upgrade that too).

If I decided to upgrade, it would probably be to one of the plentiful 8k7a's on the FS/T forums right now. Should I go with this board or get one with the kt266a chipset?

Finally, what would my mobo/ram be worth. I have 2 sticks of 256 meg (Infineon and kingston) that run the mentioned bus at the fastest timings.

No. I myself just made the jump and don't see a difference. I would wait until "the next big thing".

Im in the same boat lastig21. I have the kk266-r with a 1.2tbird@1.4. I like the Dragon+ and the nvidia all in one board as well. I just can't get myself to invest the $150 for the MB and another $50-100 for memory and not see a significant increase in speed. I think I may get one of those new XP processors instead. Everything I use runs plenty fast. I play Counter-Strike alot and get 99fps with the current setup. I see no reason to go DDR right now.

yeah I am in the same boat as you. I have an Athlon tbird 1.33ghz and Iwill kk266 as well. I was thinking of getting the Iwill XP333! The move to DDR 2700 and ata 133 would be nice.

maybe a cheap solution for us would be the ECS K7S5A or K7S6A when it is available. you can use SDRAM too the K7S5A board until DDR prices go down as well.

LOL... lots of boats out today.

My boat has (2) KK266-r, 1.2G Athlon rigs. Looked into the Dragon/DDR setup also and just don't see the benefit when my KK266 systems are running great. I'll be wating for the 2.5-3G cpu range, and the next best DDR level before i upgrade again. (well that's my plan as of today, it may change tomorrow) :) :)

If you are starting from the ground up. Definitely go the DDR route. If you already have a KT133a system, I wouldn't bother going to a DDR system right now.

I don't think so. The performance gains will only really be relevant in extremely heavy multitasking and a few memory intensive tasks. However, seeing as how you would have to invest well over $100 to make the switch, and your memory is already running quite fast, it is definitely not worth it.
