There will ALWAYS be something worth waiting for,my advice is if you need a pc now get it.

If you wait for something better you're gonna be waiting forever.

The problem with these kinds of decisions is that both now and in june '02 there will always be something new that will come out soon (3, 6, 9, 12 months)... and I bet that both now and in june '02 and in december '02, etc... there will always be something worth waiting for. I think you have to ask yourself the question of whether you really need the new computer now... do you?

well, having a 2nd computer in the home would be a luxury, cause then there wouldnt be a hassle to share one computer :)
and thats pretty much it, my computer right now is pretty decent, 1 ghz AMD, radeon 32mb LE DDR, and 512mb DDR ram.
but i was thinking about getting one now, since the prices for everything is so cheap...like the RAM, and what not.

Why don't you just upgrade to a new mobo and processor. I just got a epox 8kha+ with an AMD 1800+ for about $300.00, add a Ti-200 and your set. $500.00 and you'll be flyin high then in June see whats new.

Your computer is fine. I would just get a better vid card and you should be set for another year really.

I would buy now, The economy may get out of recession and prices will soar,
Ram is already going up, expect the rest to follow in the spring season.
I just built my new Abit KR7A Raid board and love it. waited long enough to get it.
Next time I buy and do not wait, it can be craziness to antisipate a future release.

I would definitely get a second computer in that case, especially if you're at school (college?), because that way you don't have to argue with (insert person here) about who needs to use it more... I would get something like an epox 8kha+ (or any KT266A mobo), an AMD XP 1600+, 0.5GB RAM, and a radeon or a gf3 ti

I buy PCs for a living, several hundred a year.

From what I have seen the are just past the "low ebb" price wise. BUY NOW.

Unless something totally unforseen happens the "bang for the buck" factor will be higher next summer and after.

im still in high school, sharing a computer isnt that bad...but it would be better to have one of my own. it's not such a nuisance that i necessarily need a computer of my own.

BUY NOW?
heh
would the prices drastically go up if i buy it in like at the end of january?

so yeah..if i were to get that new computer, i would have to get the complete set, like the monitor, keyboard, and everything, so it would be expensive. so right now would be the best time?

I would also buy now, or soon..... I however would not get an expensive MB.. I would get a k7s5a... the performance gain goign to kt266a is negligible, and IMHO dealing witha via chipset is not worth a 2% performance gain

the best advice for buying computer stuff is buy what you need when you need it. but only you can really make the determination of it you need something. we can help by looking at our own past history and preferences, but we can't possibly match up perfectly.

that said, start looking in hotdeals to collect the things that don't drop in price much (like monitors, keyboards, mice, speakers, etc), and use a pricematching credit card to buy the stuff that does.
