Worth extra money for a Klipsch instead of Logitech?

Hey,
I am in desperate need of computer speakers, since I don't have any any more. I am looking for a good pair of 2.1 speakers, and noticed that newegg.com has the Logitech Z-340 3 Peice Speaker System for only 38 dollars after rebate. They also have the Klipsch Promedia GMX A-2.1 Personal Audio System for 130 dollars. Do you guys think that the Klipsch speakers are really worth the extra 92 dollars? I will be using the speakers for music, gaming, and work. Are there any others speakers I should know about? Thanks So Much!

When it comes to audio transducers, you basically get what you pay for. Also consider a decent set of home theater speakers and an external amp. I found a good set of KLH speakers with sub-woofer at Costco for less than $100. I matched that to a regular stereo amp/preamp box with the sound cards LINE OUT patched to the amp's AUX input. It sounds great - music CDs almost match my Bose home theater system which is in another room.

When it comes to speakers and other transducers, I prefer to go to a company that is focused on that - JBL, Advent, Bose, Klipsch, etc.

umm..I have logitech z 560 THX 4.1 speakers and they are exellent deal for the money..In some reviews I even read that they are better than klipsch.. I am not planning to upgrade from them even if I get a new computer...

peace, hope that helps

The Promedia GMX 2.1s are going to sound much better. I owned the Z340s, and while they sound good, they're not made to compete against the Promedias, so you're practically comparing apples and oranges. 😉 Given what the Logitech Z-560s (4.1) go for, you'd get a better bang for your $130-140 by purchasing the Logitechs instead. If $$ is tight, (and you are only looking for 2.1s) do a search for Boston Acoustics BA-735. IMHO, you will not a find a better set of 2.1 speakers at $60, and they sound as good or better than most $100 speakers (2.1s). They might not be as powerful as the Klipsch GMX 2.1s, but BA speakers have a well-deserved reputation for producing natural uncolored sound. Their only weaknesses are a small subwoofer and that the highs, while good, are not as sharp as Klipsch speakers. Then again, they don't have seperate tweeters to handle that end. But the midrange is easily as good as the Klipsch's, if not better. Also, Klipsch speakers (I'm using 4.1s, but this applies to all of them) have a tendency to sound 'hot', so while they're excellent gaming and DVD speakers, music reproduction is not their selling point. Either way, the BA-735 wipe the floor with the Logitech Z-340s.

Overstock carries them for $31.99, but I'm not sure if they're new or refurbished. If new, it's a steal, but check with Overstock before you purchase. 🙂

Got my Z560 $115 from dell.com
Couldn't even use it now - neighbors complaining about the noise!
Now I'm back to my $2 headphone...
Someday, if I can afford a home, maybe my Z560 will come alive

for a 2.1 system, get the promedia 2.1s. they're a lot better than those crappy gmxs, they charge way too much for a mediocre system.

The z340's are clearer at low volume, but the klipsch's have an assload more juice pumping through them, so the sub sounds way better.
