Would this computer be worth $3000? I knows it's better then prices on the internet. But would you be able to buy the parts from a small business store for cheaper?

extreamly bad. if you're spending that much on a pc, either go with an OCZ or (the best, but most expensive) PC power & cooling.

You could build that system for $2500 or lower, and given a wiser selection of components one that could perform as well or better for significantly less than that.

if you are gonna be spening that much on a computer and are getting some parts that arent worthy of that pricetag, you might as well get a boutique PC like falcon or voodoo and get a nice unique case while youre at it

fx-55 = 850
A8v-e = 145
XMS-pro (4x512) = 270
74 raptor = 180
x850 xt pe = 600 (msrp is supposed to be lower, but I couldn't find it for less)
2xdvd-rw = 120
a2zs = 90
creative 5.1 = 60
antec550 = 110
other crap = 25

total = 2450

that is a very generic estimate, but some of your descriptions were very generic. I pretty much just took the first price that came up in the search. Don't forget to factor in shipping! But when all is said and done, no. It's not worth it. But don't forget that the person offering you this has to be compensated for their time. So if you aren't really a DIYer, it might be worth the 450 - 500 to have someone else do it, but if you can and will, it would be cheaper to do it yourself.

BTW, if you ever need to find out the worth of a system again, here is a nifty site to use.

EDIT: ooops, that ram should be 540, not 270. Bringing the total to: 2720.

your wasting too much money. you dont need that processor, youd be fine with a 3000+, you dont need two opticals, you DONT need two gigs of corsair xms ram, you dont need that sli motherboard, you dont need that expensive ass video card

get a regular asus mobo, 3000+, 1gig of cheaper ram, geil or kingston,etc, get an x800, one optical, and not a raptor. they are loud and expensive. get a 200 gig seagate barracuda

2 gig is overkill....fx-55 is overkill.....74 gig raptor is overkill....x850 xt pe is overkill.....seriously if you were to change that to 1 gig....Athlon 3500+ a seagate barracuda.....and a 6800GT or something like that...you would save a bundle and not be able to tell too much difference at all

i have to agree with rleemhui - especially with the memory and CPU. Hell, a winchester 3500+ can hit FX-55 performance levels EASILY, especially with the overclocking memory you're looking at, and would save you like $500. 1GB of memory is fine, too, and it's not worth the penalties for 2GB right now. You either have to grab high-latency 1GB sticks, for a lot of money (Most 1GB sticks are CL3), or you have to get 4 512MB sticks, but then the memory runs at DDR333 with 2T timings, which is even worse. I'm densities and latencies will get better in the future, though, so i'd just grab 1GB, sell it in a year to a friend, and grab 2GB. The Video card is your call, but i'd be inclined to spend $175 less for 95% of the performance, with a 6800GT or X800XL (hell, X800XL is supposed to be $300, although i doubt it'll be that cheap for a while). The raptors are nice, but i personally like the Seagate 7200.8s or Maxtor Diamondmax 10's, with their 16MB buffers and large capacities - they are fast as hell, but way bigger than raptors.

In short, unless $3000 means nothing to you, or you REALLY need to have bragging rights, buying top-of-the-line equipment is simply not worth it. Paying double for an extra 10% performance makes no sense, especially when you could just upgrade twice as often instead, or overclock to get better performance than high-end equipment (for example, my CPU can hit 2.6GHz easily, and as soon as i exchange my memory for some better Crucial Ballistix, i'll be taking it there, effectively getting FX performance for $155).

Hehe... if you gotta worry about 400 dollars on a 3k rig, then you cant afford it... or a falcon, etc....
build a 3500/3000+ system yourself for about .... 1k or so... bank the rest...

my 2 cents... (what no change!?!?!?) 😛
