Where I worked over last summer, there were a couple PCs running Windows XP with the barest glimmering of the hardware necessary. They had some really awful whining fans with the "my-bearings-are-long-gone" sound too. I got frustrated with one of them once and punched it... and it immediately shut off. :D

Thankfully, the $10,000 of info being stored on it at the time was fine after I turned it back on

It really depend on what years are you talking about.

The one I'm on now is pretty darn old:

P3 500
256MB RAM

Well, it get the jobs done, what else can you ask for?

I can't remember what mine was whenever I first got here to work about 4 years ago. It was one of those old style ones that are placed up under your monitor and "lay down" if you know what I mean. Not sure what the correct term is because I rarely see them anymore.

But it had to be atleast 6 or 7 years old when I got here. I do a lot of 3D work and it would take hours, sometimes overnight to turn 3D models into solid profiles (2D format). It was nuts.

At my first real job after college, I had a 486 DX2 with 32 MB RAM. It "ran" NT4, and probably took around 7 minutes to boot. I was a desktop support tech. That was the hot sh!t.

I had some lousy portable Toshiba 286SX (not DX) 25Mhz with orange plasma text only screen. Gosh that thing was slow.
