Sorry, I had to go out for a bit right after I posted so I wasn't able to follow the thread as well as I'd have liked.
To answer the "WTF were you thinking?!?!?" question I'll say this. I was rather upset about my pants at the time and I think that it is quite obvious that I was not thinking clearly at all, I get rather nervous at interviews and was thrown off my game. It was extremely inappropriate and not how I ever though I would conduct myself in a professional setting. I am ashamed and embarrassed, as I should be. I've written a letter of apology to the company and hope to put this past me.

for what it's worth, i had an amazing interview last week but still didn't get the job. i thought i had it all sealed up but the chips did not fall my way.
good luck to you in your future interviews.
Thanks for the words of support, the tech job market isn't easy to begin with and with the economy taking a dive it's only getting worse.

Spelling has never been my strength

thank god for spell check (which I didn't use as I was in a hurry when I posted)
As to why it popped in to my head the way it did I honestly couldn't tell you, I was embarrassed to be walking in to an interview with mud on my pants. I was quite agitated about it actually. I understand that stuff happens from time to time and you've got to go with the flow but that wasn't the state of mind I was in. I guess it was a vain extremely poor attempt to re-direct the attention from my muddy trousers.
