Sorry to hear about this horrible experience. I have used groupon without issue so far and their website seems very customer centric. Good luck and fight this until you get a refund and no suppression of your freedom, you are in right.
 
Final update, Tuesday 12/20 - GREAT news!

I received the following e-mail from the acupuncturist today:

"Thank you for your response. I've contacted Rash Curtis already to remove my claim against you. This was done only a minute ago.

I would appreciate you updating your reviews as you mentioned in your email below.

Please let me know, if you have any questions."

Incredible. Seems like she was touched by the holiday spirit and/or decided to do the right thing after all.

Summary of actions I took thanks to suggestions by the above posters that helped yield the end results:

1. File a complaint with the BBB's website.
2. File a compliant with the CA Acupuncture Board website.
3. File a complaint with Groupon via certified mail.
4. File a complaint with the CA Attorney General via certified mail.
5. Send a letter requesting proof of debt to the collection agency via certified mail.
6. Write a negative review on Yelp, Google, MDreviews, etc.

Kept copies of EVERYTHING.

Just a quick question. What has groupon done in the meantime. Did they put any pressure on the service provider

Groupon was actually very helpful. They contacted the service provider and stated that they advised her directly to drop the claim and remove it from the collection agency. They took it upon themselves to contact her and then followed up with me. I was impressed with their helpfulness, they get an "A" for customer service!
 
i wouldn't edit any of your current review, simply edit the bottom and state that it has been resolved after some back/forth.
