got the parts for my new htpc build and eagerly waiting all week to put everything together. Everything's running great - I install windows 7 and notice that the atsc tuner's not detected.
Open my case and notice the card isn't sitting completely right - I nudge it with perhaps too much force and hear a slight crackle.

Plug everything in..

The system will not boot.

ARGH!!!

ok, i know there are far worse things to happen....

Probably a plastic crackle.

I had that happen once with a new build and a P4T-E mobo that I had a hard time installing the memory in.

Spent the whole weekend slobbering over my tears trying to get it to boot to no avail.....

Electrical crackle or plastic breaking crackle?

Plastic. It was pretty faint too - I don't even see any cracks on the board.

I placed an order for a replacement on Friday but I sure hope all of my components are safe.

NOT FUN.

Yessir, I actually ordered a different brand because a few of the otherwise 400+ positive reviews on newegg for my last board mentioned people having very similar issues.

No worst feeling ever is using ASUS Winflash on a brand new MB.

i did that twice, except it was not a brand new motherboard. i tried to flash my bios from a floppy(this was about 7,8 9 whatever years ago on my amd k6-2-500mhz) it failed and bricked the motherboard. i was pissed but was like whatever, i have a totally different motherboard i will use. i build the whole thing agian and boot it. then i have an "oh frick" moment when i realized i left the floppy in the floppy drive and it just tried to flash the bios to the wrong bios and bricked the second motherboard. 2 dead motherboards in 1 day. fortunalty this was not my main computer. i had just upgraded to a amd thunderbird 1.2ghz, but i was still pissed.
