Worst CPU ever.

For me P4 willamete.

There have been many "bad" CPUs throughout the years, but if you're looking for the worst, I think the Cyrix MediaGX has to take the cake.

P4 williamette is was the worst POS I've encountered.

Although, I've only started paying attention as of late 2000.

...wait, wait. The P4 Celeron is the worst POS in it's mother. This one tops the williamette.

i think the socket423 based P4 (williamette .18u 1.7v) CPU is the worst, as its socket and the fact it could only take RDRAM kinda outweighs the celerons lack of cache, but the celeron was available in socket 478 from the begginning.

I once owned a pentium 100mhz. no "pro" after pentium, no mmx instructions. used it to play doom and surf the internet over AOL 1.0 on my 14.4k modem. Seems so distant now.... Oh, and I had to upgrade it from 8mb ram to 16mb just so I could install quake. Cost me $100.

$100 to double your RAM?? that is a steal!! just keep telling yourself that and you can almost justify this many years down the road

A Cyrix rated for 200. Worked more a like a 150, and aborted all the time (No BSOD back then)

my 1.5 Ghz will P4.....An athlon 1 Ghz could beat it.

Do CPU'S degrade over time ? like get slower as there get used more ?

Not really Mik3y. Some cellys are just as fast as Pentiums, and most can overclock more

Worst chip ever has to be the Cyrix 333GXP that I'm combing my hair with at the moment.

Agreed...I hate helping anybody with one of these dog slow systems. The are so neutered they are not even worth bothering with. AMD's Durons are much better at being a budget line chip while still delivering some performance...

I believe the old Cyrix 5x86 processors could actually burn out running at stock speed with recommended cooling. You can't be that kind of quality.

IDT Winchips also deserve a nod.

No way,I had a celeron 300 @ 450 and it was the fastest cpu at the time beating the top of the line PII 350 or was it a PII 400....

anyways not all celerons were bad.

Cyrix 200 or 166 or something... Been too long, but it would abort/restart, etc.. (NO BSOD that far back, at least for me)

For me, it would have to be the IBM PR133+ (Cyrix Chip). Ran at some off the wall speed, I think 110mhz, motherboard the shop sold me the chip with didn't run at that speed, so they OCed the chip to a 1PR150+ (120 mhz). Kept getting BSOD, they tried to tell me it was the OS. Hah.

Of course, I was running Win95...hmm, maybe it was the OS after all. 😉

My perosonal worst would be my old 1.4 T-Bird. Its still running in my parents machine but idles at 60C... I've got a Thermalright SK 6+ and a 50CFM 80mm fan sitting on it too. Its not a bad chip really its just the worst I've had.

For me it was definately an old Cyrix CPU that I had back in the mid 90's ........ I don't recall the model, but it was arround the time when 486's was in.

The worst chips I have ever encountered was a motherboard I had - also back in the mid 90's - with winbond chips on it. With my internal modem installed the floppy drive got disabled :Q

The best CPU would have to be my DX2 80 from AMD.
