Do I have the worst o/c'ing A64 ever??? I just ordered mine last week from zipzoomfly. CPU-Z gives this info about the chip:

Winchester core
Family: F
Model: F
Stepping: 0
Ext. Family: F
Ext. Model: 1F
Revision: DH8-D0

The most I can o/c the CPU is 2295mhz!!!! That sucks! I have the vcore at 1.55 and tried setting the extra vcore setting to 110% and I couldn't go any higher!!!! I had my ram divider set to 150 (underclocking the ram). LDT multi was set to 3x.

So is it official??? Do I have the worst A64 CPU ever????

noo...It took 1.85v core to get my C0 stepping clawhammer to a measily 2.4ghz. all the c0 stepping suck for overclocking

EDIT: oops. Misread that. for a winnie, thats low, but just remember, anything over stock is just extra ;) you still got faster than a 3500+

just like to add:

I have an enermax 470 noisetaker and the rails look great so that's not the problem. I'm starting to read that the newer winnies aren't o/c'ing nearly as well, I'm pissed!

Exactly the same cpu (3000+??) as mine, and I get exactly the same OC (2295, 255x9, for me at 1:1). But remember, it started at 1.8 !!!!! We got our money's worth and more... I have OCZ PC4000 gold rev 2. My other winnie only does 220x10 (a 3200+) but I think my AGP lock isn't working on that one (Abit AV8)

How do I tell the week? Do i need to remove the HSF? I can do that when I get home.

yeah if you look on the chip itself by removing the heatsink etc.. you will see the three lines of text if you look for the line in the middle you will see somthing like CBBID 04xxDPMW the "xx" is your week number so like 0451 would be year 2004 and week 51 of that year ... they say that teh week 51's are under performing big time but if you check that might be an indication on to why it might be under performing ... not that it will help you but just for peace of mind ...

Complaining about a 500Mhz overclock is idiotic. Stop being a baby, overclocks are not a guarantee.

Mi week 51 OCs to 2400mhz, but I have to do more testing with a new modded Bios and some new Ram.

You're just as useless at sharky's.

How is it bad to inform people that certain version of a CPU are poor o/c'ers??? Yea, you're an idiot so leave.

My week 51 will only do around 2350, but I keep it at 2304 (9x256). Yes, these are not nearly as good as the older chips at overclocking, but I sure as hell am not going to complain about a 28% overclock. Heck...if it had a rating, it'd be around a 3650+ or so....so I'm happy.

BTW....ackbar says his chip is only stable at 2100, so be glad!

I could only get 100 MHz! Anything over that is totally unstable! Man, it's funny when people complain about o/cing, b/c I can always beat them.

If that's the case then that REALLY sucks!!! lol.

Did you isolate the CPU by setting the mem divider to 100, LDT multi to 1x, setting the multi to the max, vcore to 1.55, and then bumping up your HTT speed (fsb)??? I've done all that and verified it was the CPU holding me back.

Yea don't let ackmed lead you to believe that I'm not happy with the chip. My rig is running anything I have fast as heck!!! I was just beginning to think i was the only one that couldn't hit 2.6!!!! As long as i'm not the only one and this is what a lot of people are experiencing I won't feel dissapointed :).

This is why I went with the 3200 Winchester with the 10x multiplyer. But I got a good 500 Mhz-600Mhz out of it just like you did. I can run 2.4-2.5 at stock vcore and I could run 2.6GHz with 1.5 vcore.

And to tell you the truth - I would rather have 2.4 using stock voltage then trying to push my core to the max.

you dont set you LDT to 1x ... you set it to 3x ... 1000mhz is the max HT so unless your are looking to clock the htt (fsb) to more then 333mhz you should lower the ldt to 3x...

Definitely man... before every o/cing attempt I'd use a 100 mem divider set the HT multi to 2x, set vcore to 1.6V and even increased the chipset voltage to 1.7V!! NADA! Trust me, I've been o/cing CPUs since I had a Pentium 1 233 with MMX, and I've definitely tried everything with this chip. It ain't going no where. Be happy for what you've got, any chip is only rated for what it's rated for, sometimes AMD will sort out a chip that can only do what it's supposed to do. You really can't ask for more, a 100 MHz headroom on this CPU that I have guarantees that it'll run at 2000 stably which is all they're concerned with.

You know - your over clocks are not just limited by the CPU, but by your motherboards. Some motherboards and/or PSU combos can not get enough voltage to the CPU.

it has not yet been struck in iron that the week 51's are bad OCers as some people have hit 2.5/2.6 speeds etc, i think that your hardware setup and compatibility has a lot to do with it as well (not you just generally) .. but as in your case i think that you just have a bad chip... just out of interest what mobo do you use...

Well if it's any consolation to you, you make me feel much better about my CPU :).

Thank you!!! hehe :p.

I've got a Chaintech VNF4 Ultra (nforce 4 ultra). I've been in close communication with a guy that I know that can get above 290 HTT with that board. I've done everything he's done and still nothing. You're right though, it's definitely a combination of things, but no one has a problem getting up to 220 HTT (passing is another issue) from with this board from what I've read. But I've never even been able to get up to 220 HTT. With my brand spanking new Neopower 480, I don't think that's the problem.
