worse preformance with any overclock

ok so i have this setup e6600 , ga-965p-ds3 3.3 f13, 4 gigs gskill 8500 5-5-5-15(used to have geil 6400 ,corsair 620psw
and 8800 gts 320 .

with my normal settings in the cs stress test i get about 205 fps and in farcry 2 about 36 on non overclocked setup.

if i overclock anything ram cpu or even keep those stock and just up the fsb to 400 or anything. i get the same results
about 160 fps in cs and unplayable slide show in farcry 2

i know its not heat cause right now my cores are at ... 15c(idle) and mb at 33c
im not sure whats going on.
only thing so far i have noticed is my ram doesnt wawnt to do 1066. and it seems to be happening only after this new gskill ram.

any ideas to what could be happening
ima pull my ram and try the old and see if i get worse reults overclocking than stock

check that your PCI-E width is still x16 after overclocking. Sometimes, it will reduce to x1, and that will cripple your framerates.
 
Incidentally, I highly doubt your cores are idling at 15C unless you keep your room unusually cold. That's below standard room temperature.
 
lol didnt notice that cpu z says its on 1 x . imma look for the setting in bios but i dont remember seeing it?
 
ok so there wasnt any settings to change the pci-e speed, some quick google action turned out that if i had my pci speed set at 105 mhz it would fix it.
it worked .
does anyone know why it would fail to run at 16x at 100mhz pci speed?



and yeah it is really cold here right now no heater and its almost frezzing outside. = blankets and gloves lmao
