Worried about the PS3 fate..

So we got a few ps3s to sell, me and 2 of my friends...then the ebay prices went down the tubes. I was on the fence with keeping it. So I figure, I was out in the cold for 4 days in a tent...and nothing to show for it?? well, I opened it this past week, and so far, R:FoM and RR7 are pretty good games. My question is...why are the top 50 message boards on GameFaqs NOT ps3 boards....could the system flop?
My way of thinking is-sony was DEAD ON with the last 2 systems....why not another? I mean if you look at history- the dreamcast had it coming...sega was always trailing behind. But the playstation has been dominating.
Is anyone else worried? and why or why not?

And no fanboy trolling, lets get a real discussion going here! And leave the wii out of it, we all know its a unique and KILLER console. I am looking at mainly the war going on between the "next gen" 360 and ps3.

Sony dropped the ball big time with this one, and thought their name and their name alone could carry them through this generation.

Microsoft stepped up big time, and has been listening and delivering to their users since day 1.

Maybe they can turn it around in a year or two when some better games get out there, but as of right now and in the foreseeable future, PS3 is a flop. :thumbsdown:

Last night there was a PS3 (20gb) on the shelf at my local wal-mart and now one was buying it. No wii though, I think I could have conviced my wife to let me get the wii if it was there

because they aren't the first to market this time. they are playing catch up with the 360 in all areas, especially multiplayer.

Roughly as good as Xbox360 for games (launch titles ports a little worse)


Once supply is there and a few more good games are out (including ports), I think enough people will choose it over the 360 that it will be at least a modest success.

I would accept this statement as feasable only if the price were a couple hundred better.

there arent enough consoles out in peoples homes yet, give it till the new year then itll start to pick up. a lot of them are in peoples houses waiting to be sold on ebay.

PS3 is in trouble but I dont think its a total flop. They could have done a hell of a lot better yes but they can still come back. The cost is huge and the graphics are justa bout the same as the xbox360 but they JUST launched and if they sony machine starts rolling we all knwo where that can lead to.

I think we all forget just how many fan boys there are of the sony systems....

I think it will atleast come close the 360.

The PS3 is a decent value if you want the features I listed. I didn't say "everyone" would pick it over xbox, just "enough."

An Xbox is $400 with 1 game bundled, or $350 once in a while from someone like Dell. Wifi is another $85 for most people since they'd buy Microsoft's.

People wanting an xbox-level console and to play PS2 games will see the PS3 as being about the same cost ($435 + $129) but simpler and sleeker since it's 1 unit not 2. The blu-ray is just a bonus for them.

People wanting an xbox-level console and blu-ray will see the player reviews are good and decide getting the blu-ray for just $200 over the console cost is a good deal. People wanting some form of high-def could go either way since cost is about the same when you add HD-DVD to xbox.

Initial shortages and a high price is what will keep many away from PS3. Apparently people still have a lot of faith in Sony, considering that, so far PS2, outsold both X360 and Wii this holiday season.

I want the PS3 to fail simply because of all the greedy sh1tcakes that came out of the woodwork to fleece people who genuinely want the console to play it. They're getting theirs a little now that the PS3 is only selling for a bit over retail on Fleabay.

There are plenty enough good titles coming out to carry the PS3. Obvious titles like FFXIII, MGS 4, DMC 4, and many others. Add to this list of popular, well esteemed series a few more new, original games and you have a successful console.

Right now, due to many bad factors, the PS3 is in the dumps, but I bet by this time next year it'll be doing at least moderately well.

The point is, there is NO way it is going to flop.

They are only going for around $600 locally on Craiglist. I've seen Wii packages going for more.

the system will not flop. it just won't have the highest opinion for a little while.
the system will continue to sell out everywhere though, even if public opinion is somewhat low, because there are enough people who want one and won't be able to get one. buy the time the system has strong availability, it is likely strong system selling games will be close to release, and this will spike public opinion.

sony struggled a bit here. the high price at first is a killer at first, so if the short supply. BUT, since there aren't strong games at the moment, that's not a big deal. also, remember 360 didn't have good games at launch either. but think of it this way, low availability is doing a good thing right now. it's creating an artificial high demand, which is keeping it on the minds of people who likely would have forgotten about it if you could easily walk into any store and get one from a hoard of them.
by the time the system sellers are released, the console will probably have a price drop relatively shortly after launch (maybe a year after european launch?), which will help. and if Blu-Ray succeeds in the format war, it will help surge PS3 sales as well. it's a great system for blu-ray playing alone, only downfall is its inability to be properly placed in a home theater rack due to dimensions and shape. being on top wouldn't be a bad thing though.

Also, I must say that their marketting is annoying and sucks. Only commercial of the PS3 I see is the "omfg, it's so advanced, tse hov3r!!!". With barely any games, its overpriced 'advancedness' is all it has. The 360 can probably match or do better. Wii is all about fun from the start, don't remember what the 360 commercials were about, but the ones on now are also about games. To sum up, Sony has a big stick so far up their ass about being advanced it's annoying.

I'm not sure why everyone is jumping all over the PS3's launch games. They are on par with Wii's launch games (or lack therof) as well as the 360's original crappy selection of games. Heck, it took a whole year before a monster game (Gears of War) came out for the 360.

When it comes to online stuff, the PS3 already has the potential to pass up microsoft's Live. Free connectivity is a plus, plus Sony has already explained that it has a feedback system in place for improving online performance and pushing out updates.

The system's superior specs are worth the extra few hundred dollars. Just remember how high the 360 was selling for, and you couldn't find it alone and not in a $800+ package for 5-6 months. 50 GB data discs and the 8-cell processer are going to lead to some seriously beautiful games.

By no means am I a PS3 fanboy, but I've done quite a bit more reading and research then a lot of the people posting uneducated comments here.

Lastly, you are dumb if you decided to wait to sell your PS3. Launch day, 1 day sale on ebay was the way to go. Just keep em all now. Lastly, I predict that within a year sony will release a controller that has motion sensing as well as the rumble feature.
