Lynnfield's TDP is reportedly 95W, and desktop Bloomfield's (current i7) TDP is 130W. There are trades (such as number of memory channel, on-board/on-package PCIe, QPI, etc.) but it seems reasonable to assume Lynnfield will run cooler than Bloomfield given the same performance. Plus P55 boards should be much, much cooler than X58. It's sorta similar to what Intel has been doing. e.g. 975X -> P965, X48 -> P45.
Heat and Performance/Watt are different things, despite being closely related often times. Personally I'm less sensitive to power usage than to heat/noise as long as my PSUs can handle the load. Devoted F@H folks might have different preferences..
While my opinion of taltamir declined significantly recently, he's correct on this issue.Originally posted by: jandlecack
You're clearly a moron.
The "i7 on P55" you so happily claim exists IS THE CORE i5.
I'm sick of arguing with an idiot, please take your crap elsewhere and stop confusing newbies.

Thanks! I think i'll wait for an i5. I don't want to do SLI, and i'm expecting the 6 core processors to be like > $400 so upgrading to that is pretty much out of the question, and triple vs dual channel memory has shown to be not much of a difference. So it fits my needs of a high performance but low power system and heat system.
Why are i5s a low end quad core? The benchmarks that have been released are very competitive with the current LGA-1366 i7Originally posted by: IntelUser2000

You want i7, not i5 for a quad core. Official branding of most Lynnfield will be i5 so you'll be getting very low end versions if it was i5 quad core. Just clarifying again.
