no, half time/quarter break is not waiting for commercial... there is a fixed amount of time for that. Nor is the inning change, or time out. NFL is the one that actually has players standing around waiting for commercials to be over.

The same thing is true in hockey. Stoppages are 20 seconds unless there's a commercial break, then it's like 3 minutes.

And college basketball has media timeouts every 4 minutes.
 
I love cricket, really great game to watch.

I think when people think of cricket they think of the 5 day version of it, but it's the one day or the "20/20" (ie about 4 hours) versions that are much more popular. Way more action than baseball and much more variety to the game. Baseball is terrible.

Also true for college football; and this is only for televised games. Not sure if it it is still common to have untelevised games these days, but when I was going to them regularly, non-televised games would have normal length on time outs and no strange standing around, not being allowed to huddle or stand on the sideline.

And yeah, the 4 minute "official timeouts" in college basketball. sad.
