Worlds coolest bridge. IMO.

What's the point of that bridge? Too practical to just pave a road down one hill and back up the other?
That plan failed the environmental impact assessment.

QFT

If they had just paved down one side, up the other, it would have been cheaper and they could have added more lanes. That would have decreased there traffic problem! plus saved a crapload of money

You cant really tell from the pictures but the two slopes are pretty steep and mountainous. The road that was there before they built the bridge had 5-6 switchbacks on each side of the valley.

IIRC there already is a passage way like that. Just takes like 4 hours to traverse, where the bridge takes about 20 minutes.

Again, IIRC.

I don't like it. View it from the side and you'll see that it looks as if it droops between the spans. Bridges don't look good when they are straight across and that high up. There's just something missing, the ideal of it all... think of the parthenon and how they purposely arched the entire thing because if it were flat it would look as though it was sagging in the center. - that's how architecture like this should be.

If they were going for some majestic piece of functionality, it's only worth to us is the worth of appeal, and the droop makes it unappealing.

Same thing that happens when you drive off any other bridge? DIAF?

saw it on Frontiers of Construction. they started off on either end and had them both meet in the middle with astounding accuracy. amazing!

Yeah it is hard to see the exact landscape based on the photos. It is a very pretty bridge and area nonetheless. However, where i'm from, there's no bank that isn't too steep for dynamite to straighten out.
