My son and I watched this today and I'll have to say my hopes were pretty low for it being good, but we really enjoyed it. Yes there's some plot issues, and some of the close up quick camera work gets annoying after a while, but I really wanted to see more of that upside-down world when it ended.

My daughter is interested in seeing it and it's one I'd go back for a second time I think.

I kinda like the Walking Dead zombies better than the World War Z movie zombies. Sure, the World War Z zombies are more dangerous because they move so fast, but the Walking Dead zombies were scarier because of the amount of detail put into them.

You could probably could have easily replaced the World War Z zombies with some kind of other swarm of flesh eating creatures (Warewolves? Dinosaurs? Aliens?) and it would have had the same effect in this movie.

that rooftop scene is obviously a rip off from L4D

/crossarm

They also did basically the same thing in the Walking Dead, and in at least one of the Resident Evil movies.

Being trapped on the roof of a building with zombies climbing to get you seems of the more commonly used cliches.

hey, it's the detective from the Killing

Wow. She is not attractive at all.

Saw it tonight and really liked it. I liked how they portrayed the zombies. Not your typical lame slow moving brain eating zombie but more of a rabid human.

I saw it with my wife and two kids on Friday, and everyone really liked it. In general, I too am more of a fan of the "slow" zombies, but that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this movie.

Really my only complaint is the same as any Hollywood movie...
Even though many scenes were tense, you never really questioned if the main characters would survive.
I guess I'm getting spoiled by recent TV such as Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, etc. where nobody is truly safe.

I saw it last night. As a long time zombie movie fan, overall it was "meh". I can't put my finger on it, but it was not what I was expecting. There was no real supporting cast development. And not enough back story. I didn't know who Brad Pitt was supposed to be. You expect ex-military special forces guy: instead he was (the best i could figure) a glorified peace corps volunteer that used to work for the UN. I did like however,
how quickly Jerusalem went to shit as soon as a few zombies got over the wall.

[Spoilers, don't really wanna black out everything...]

I too thought it was fairly ambiguous as to who Brad Pitt was supposed to be. They talk about his time in past wars, but not really what he did. I found it odd they sent a few Navy SEALs with him but they die almost immediately and he makes it through all of that.

It seemed to me Brad Pitt brought death everywhere he went. Finds that mexican family, it implies they all get killed. Goes to S. Korea, gets their captain killed, the SEALs killed, the doctor guy dies. Goes to Jerusalem which has been doing great all along, it falls the day he gets there. Boards that plane, it gets overrun by zombies so he blows it up with a grenade and none of the other passengers live.

I didn't care much for his family storyline, I really didn't care about them at all and figured they wouldn't die or anything. His wife was also annoying I thought, always crying on the phone or whatever. She's also weird looking, especially when she smiles - not her fault, but kind of distracting.

Also didn't like the typical Hollywood magic where he goes through all this hell on his journey, but when he decides to go back home he just does so with no mention of the return trip. I also would rather have actually learned about the origin like it was originally set up for.

Now I know it seems like I shit all over the movie, but I really did like it. I'd give it like a 7/10. It was an intense movie with good special effects, I was never bored and it had some unique aspects to it. I just think they had so much more in the story already that they could have utilized better but instead focused on things that weren't as interesting - like how that nuclear bomb went off and we never find out where or why that happened.

This is a very good zombie flick. I think it is definitely top 5 IMO. It had its funny moments and the spin they put on at the end was original and refreshing. I must say Brad Pitt really brought a lot to the film. Very good film 🙂

I was at a Max Brooks panel at Comic Con and he basically said that he wanted to hate the movie so badly, but he actually kind of liked it. It was so different from his book that he didn't really feel like it was his movie and thus he could enjoy it.

Just saw it -

fast zombies
Brad Pitt
3D
Ginormous Classic Design IMAX screen
IMAX theater sound

What's not to like?

Although, I did keep thinking, c'mon, it's Brad Pitt - couldn't he, shouldn't he have a more attractive wife?

I can't relate to, don't enjoy, don't like the whole cultural fascination with mythical zombies / vampires.

It's widespread, persistent, and is definitely a woman thing.

I just don't get it.

The vampire thing may be a woman thing, the zombie thing is definitely not.
