Battlefield Vietnam WW2 Mod Released

Electronic Arts has released the World War 2 mod for Battlefield Vietnam. The 300mb download includes three Pacific Theatre maps from Battlefield 1942, using the Battlefield Vietnam engine for improved graphics and also adding a flame thrower, woo hoo!

"The WW2 mod is a partial conversion of the original Battlefield 1942 to the updated engine of Battlefield Vietnam. The most popular maps of the Pacific Theater have been transferred to the new engine. This theater comes to life like never before using the overgrowth and undergrowth that made BFV such a hit. All of the characters, weapons, and vehicles have also been redone to make use of the advanced BFV rendering engine. The original BF1942 content married to the gameplay tweaks introduced in BFV combine to create a whole new Battlefield experience."

UPDATE!

Some screens form the new mod. This will get me playing BFV again :)

Screenies!

Have you ever wondered what Wake Island or Iwo Jima would look and play like with real tropical foliage? Do you love Battlefield Vietnam but you want to be able to relive the classics without having to dig up your 1942 disks?

Now you can!

Available this coming Friday (8/20/04) from Digital Illusions and EA, the World War II mod for Battlefield Vietnam brings three Pacific Theatre maps from Battlefield 1942 into the Battlefield Vietnam engine. But these aren?t straight ports of the original maps. Instead, they make use of all of the upgraded features of the Battlefield Vietnam game engine.

Grab your sniper rifle and crawl through the thick grass and dense tropical foliage of Iwo Jima. Scoot around Wake Island blaring the Battlefield 1942 theme from your Willy?s onboard radio. Use the new flamethrower to clear defenders from the airfield during your Invasion of the Philippines. All this and more.

World War 2 Mod Features:
-Three Pacific Theatre maps: Iwo Jima, Wake Island and Invasion of the Philippines.
-Improved player customization using the Battlefield Vietnam-style kit, body and head selection interface.
-Flamethrower kits can be picked up by any soldier and used to wreak havoc on bunkers and exposed infantry.
-All Battlefield weapons and vehicles from the Pacific Theatre have been rebuilt to take advantage of the Battlefield Vietnam engine.
-New animations for all kit weapons, to bring them up to the standards set with the Vietnam-era weapons in BFV.
-Battlefield Vietnam gameplay tweaks: 3D Map, capture timer, and use of kit weapons from open positions. World War II Mod
-Stay tuned to this web space over the next couple of days as we will have other updates pertaining to the release of this mod.

Tomorrow, that's Wednesday, we'll post some comparison screenshots to show off the mod.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm exicted about this. Bring it on! :D

correct me if i am wrong, but they changed battelfield very little to release vietnam, basicly just changed the senario. Game play still is the same etc. And now they are going back to their WWII story line they had in battelfield 1942?

Just imagine BF1942 running on the BFV engine. :)

You're wrong. The BF:V engine is completely different from the BF:1942 engine. Hence no Desert Combat.

This isn't a like/hate thing. BF:V is a fundamentally different engine than BF:1942. Has nothing to do with how good the game is.

Think of it like Quake2 vs. Quake3. Gameplay is fundamentally the same, but Quake3 is obviously a very different engine.

For one thing, the trees and grass are much more detailed in BF:V, giving the players many more opportunities to hide.

I agree, the befores are better.

This will be like playing 1942, but with really choppy gameplay, more fog, and all the problems EA/DICE haven't fixed/patched yet on BFV.

It's already been done. It's called Forgotten Hope mod and does much better job IMO and has many more maps and unique items. Oh, and it's available now.

Just back from a game ... Iwo Jima and Wake look great.
There are still a few bugs, but nothing major. Planes' armor and bombs do seem weaker.

What server are you guys on?

Stupid question time guys...

Is there an easier way to get out of the landing craft than trying to jump over the side? I can't seem to figure out how to drop the end gate, if there is a way.....
