So wait, is it known that nuclear launch systems run on Linux? I assumed they were some on closed specialized code like what the Shuttle uses.

I'd say the FUD in itself is worth far more to Microsoft than any benefit they could possibly get from an actual lawsuit.
Software patents really should be abolished either way, I guess maybe there's the odd sensible patent here and there, but there's such an enormous amount of junk patents that it's just not worth it.

SCO tried this game (with Microsoft's backing) and it made them a pariah in the tech community. Granted, they didn't have much of a plan B going for them.

What Microsoft really wants is a club to threaten spineless CTO's with -- "Nice server room ya got here. Shame if something was to happen to it..." It's pathetic that a company with so much commercial success can't stop being the ***hole bully of the playground.

Your funny. did you know the shuttle used Linux? At least for some stuff.(ie. not running the shuttle) :p

That's quite a stretch there. Someone is running a hydroponics experiment and is taking along a computer with linux on it. That would be like taking a Macbook on a plane with you and saying the plane is using OSX.

Ballmer didn´t show any real codes. Only lies.
They are lying, do you believe in all of the lies they said about Linux ?
Simple, they didn´t show the codes because they haven´t anyone. Lies.
If they want to play the game of Intellectual property in front of a court, they have first
to show all of the codes they are saying that´s IP infringement.

Microsoft is a complete shame doing those silly things with the media...
Ballmer saying lies about IP is a complete shame.

Ask again...

- Ballmer, where are the codes ???

Answer

- Huh ? What ? Codes ? :p ? Huh...

Yeah, because a global conflict that cost millions of lives really deserves some whiny, bullshit parallel vis-a-vis patent lawsuits.

How about an informative thread title instead of FUD and hyperbole?

- M4H

There's nothing wrong with hyperbole. I posted the point of the thread in the summary. Just move your eyes down about 5 millimeters.

How about posting something worth more than the electrons you are wasting on my screen?

MICROSOFT ROUNDING UP LINUX USERS INTO INTERNMENT CAMPS, GASSING THEM, AND BURNING THEIR CORPSES
patent debate

Hyperbole is fine, but there's good and bad analogies. Again: global conflict costing millions of lives ... patent debate. Global conflict costing millions of lives ... patent debate. Are these really on the same level?

You're mixing up WW2 and WW3. The reason the "World War 3" label is appropriate is because this situation brings the promise of mutually assured destruction, except with patents instead of nuclear weapons. Instead of the potential mass slaughter of people, we have the potential mass slaughter of software projects.

And if you think that it is demeaning for us to compare people to software in this context, then lighten the ****** up. :frown:

Haha, the guy participating in the "world war 3 is on the horizon" thread is telling someone to lighten up. oh that's rich. haha good stuff.

This whole thread is one big anti-MS circle jerk and it's amusing me to no end. Be sure not to "shoot" each other! :)

But if they don't shoot each other, then it won't be MUTUALLY ASSURED DESTRUCTION

I'm more interested in where this guy's getting his information about World War III, since it hasn't happened yet. :p

Ooh, I got a better saying ... THE HOLOCAUST ON YOUR HARD DRIVE! That's perfect!

Seriously, Smilin, do we always have to come back to this anti-MS thing? I post the good and the bad on MS and on Linux/etc. It's an article from a legit source (CNN) reporting things that Balmer and MS lawyers are saying.

Maybe the article is putting a negative spin on it for drama, as news reports are apt to do, but as it says "If the company gets its way, free software won't be free anymore." We rely a lot on free software, often because those are the best products for certain tasks, but also because, well, it's free which gives another HUGE bonus of not having to keep track of licenses.

I can set up and run my servers and get updates when I want without being bothered with keeping track of keys and how many times we've installed it and getting access to updates (some companies make this a huge hassle for paying customers), and I don't have to go through our purchase approval process or worry about budgeting. All these are things that MS wants to take away from me, and I'm just supposed to be ok with THAT?!
