Am I the only one who has never been to another country, assuming they actually exist? Cartographers are a shifty bunch.

Bermuda or Bahamas(can't remember which) and Canada for me. They barely qualify as travel.

I probably have the longest flight record here

Tainan-Taipei-Vancouver-Lima-Santiago-Buenos Aires.

2 days of flying.

They can have my place. I wouldn't mind Nova Scotia or British Columbia.

I haven't flown for two straight days. But, I have been in a single airplane for 24 hours straight.

Atlanta (4 hours just sitting on Tarmac before taking off) -> Johannesburg (20 hours). This was back in the days when they refueled in Senegal and wouldn't let you off the plane unless Senegal was your final destination. Now the flight is just under 16 hours with no refueling.

Add on the 1 hour drive to the airport, first flight to Atlanta, and layover in Atlanta and the total travel time was almost 30 hours.

70ish. My number assumes that "met with someone you know who lives there" only includes people who you visited their home when you were travelling in the foreign country. That is, I didn't include that I have been to New Zealand and know someone who was born there. I would only count New Zealand if I visited his house in New Zealand while he was there. If I just included any country where I happen to know someone and also visited, then my number would be 90ish. Being tightly connected to a university means I know many different nationalities.

My personal metric for visiting a country is "did I eat a meal outside of a port". Airports, train stations, seaports, don't count for me. Just driving through doesn't count either. I only count visiting a country if I spent real time there, walking around, interacting with at least a waiter, etc. As in, I'm not counting Senegal (see my post above) even though I have been in the Dakar, Senegal airport tarmac 6 different times.

6-points

I've been to and stayed/vacationed in 3 countries outside the US. Not big on long flights and Intl travel but do love the Caribbean beaches for AI vacations.

34, does working in other countries count as meeting people you know?
