they talked with the families of the victims, got the backstory of the characters, and used actual rescuers from that day at WTC to be the extras that do the rescuing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So they did the obligatory "talked to the families" bit and every other thing to scrape some credibility and legitimacy onto their platter. The families are not the arbiters of all that is tasteful, nor is hiring some actual rescuers doing anything in the way of distinguishing or legitimizing what is really the hollywood equivalent of those world trade center t-shirts that cropped up around wall street the day after the attack.

You guys sure have a lot to say about a movie you haven't even seen.

What does the movie have to do with it? It'll have the polish and formula required of any movie to be successful, no doubt, but that's beside the point. The idea this is being done is what we have a problem with.

nice work Hollywood! cashing on the deaths of 3000 people.
plus Nicholas Cage in one of the worst actors of all time.

i hate nicolas cage

but movies have cashed in on death for years and years

think: all war movies based on actual events.

that part doesnt bother me, pr that for some it may seem too soon. but mostly that it has nicolas cage and probably wont be worth a damn: thats what gets me about this. bad movies about important events that should be remembered.

alexander falls in that category as well. memorable guy, memorable empire, absolutely unwatchable movie

but the thing is it is only roughly 4.5 yrs since sept. 11 attacks. it's entirely too soon.

LOL, we praise movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Guns of Navarone, but not this? I, for one, can seperate the emotional response from the critical one.

Wrong. By 1980 there were already a handful of Vietnam-based movies nominated for Oscars alone, as one example. Today they are lauded as some of the best of all time in any genre.

Film is based on pop culture, and in our information age, many might even consider 5 years too long.

Saw the trailer in a theater about a month ago, my reaction was "Oh jeez. Cmon." - Looks really tasteless. I hope no one sees it. Maybe i'm being too harsh on it, but i don't like Nick Cage either 😛
