HEH! Check out what I dropped in the mail box this morning:

I can't help myself!

There are 22 rebate submissions there, and I have eight more to go, provided I don't buy anything else before then. After about four hours I couldn't bring myself to fill-out the rest, got sick of doing it. The remaining eight don't need to be postmarked until July something, so I'll do those next week.

The purchases for those rebates were all made between May 14th and May 31st. This represents about $1300 in outstanding rebates, the biggies being from two laptops and one desktop computer. The rest being from memory modules, hard drives, flash memory, 17" CRT monitor, motherboard, 2 way radios, and some other do-dads.

Someone come confiscate my computer so I can't access hot deals! :p

Not only do I make copies of UPC codes and the completed rebate forms, I make copies of the addressed and stamped envelope, staple the copies together, write the date each was mailed on the top sheet, file them away in my file cabinet. When the check comes, I pull the file and shred it.

I'm pretty meticulous about it all. Problem is, I've never needed the backups. I've received every rebate I've ever submitted except for two. One was my fault for waiting until the postmark deadline to get it in the mail and the other was dubiously denied because they considered it a 'duplicate' submission (one rebate per address/household vs. one rebate each SKU per address/household).

I've had to call or write a few times to inquire about a rebate check, but it always came, albiet much later than the stated "6 to 8 weeks" or whatever.

lol! Its not that bad, really. The big thing is sitting down and getting them done without delaying when there are so many better things one could be doing. But, as much of a PITA as it is, losing $1300+ smarts far more.

After the bad experiences I had recently with rebates I am going to avoid them at all costs. Especially anything associated with rebatestatus.com. I spent six months arguing and filing Better Business Bureau complaints to no avail. Finally it took a promise to meet them in court and a letter from my lawyer to get my rebate. Still waiting for an apology (not holding my breath).

Whatever keeps you narcoleptics satisfied! :p

You should just use PaperPort Deluxe for copies of rebate submissions.
