Nah, best thing is to either

a) work there

b) know someone who works there (with relatively decent pull).

I chose (a)... it saved me from having my network jack shut off multiple times during college for excessive bandwidth use . Also, since I worked there, I had (b), so I was able to get ports unthrottled so Ventrilo would work again.

Well, I'm assuming that the person in question is an outsider, so (b) is the only option for them. Also, there's

c) Have boobs :p

It may not be covered by your health plan, but there's nothing stopping you from getting boobs.

Nope, we may ogle the foreign object (i.e. breasts) as they enter the Lair of the Nerd, but once they're gone, our eagerness to help quickly fades :p. It's not like I'm speaking from experience or anything .

Hell, if a girl comes in and askes for the MSN webcam port opened, I'm going to do it. On the condition that I get to direct, co-star, or both. ;)

Don't.

There are enough people playing Quake 3, Starcraft and unreal tournament in my college's labs already. Try to do some work or appreciate the silenze, then some bunch starts yelling out 'take that mofo', 'suck it' or something else. Don't need an addict hanging out there 24/7....

Oh trust me, we pay utter and the utmost attention to them while they are in the domicile. But we were so infatuated with them, by the time we snapped out (or one of the female IT people slapped us), we forgot what they wanted :Q. I remember getting sent out to look at someone's computer (a freshman I think... I think I was a junior at the time). I come in and the chick (who was fairly cute) was playing Super Mario Bros 3 :Q!! I should've challenged her to one of those mulitplayer head stomping games. But alas, I was quiet and even more so after she spilled a glass of water right by her laptop lol.

We had a guy like that at college... some commuter who'd always come in and play Warcraft III. The thing is, we'd mess with them so much that we enjoyed them playing the game (although he was quiet). We had deep freeze on, so whenever he installed it, we'd just restart the machine so it'd wipe it out completely. Before we had DeepFreeze, we'd constantly uninstall it or reimage the machine completely . He was dubbed "World of Warcraft III guy" by one of the other techs.

All that stuff is blocked for your own security. If the network had open ports then bad stuff could get through and spread to everything on the network. Instead of allowing freedom with the hopes the students don't do something dumb, they just make it so you can't do anything bad.
