Basically....all these games are like one HUGE GRIND. Whether your in a group, or alone, you're just killing crap to level up. Once you hit 60, you just continue doing the same raids day in and day out just so one hunter can get the leet epic chest piece he wanted.

epic chest pieces do what? I'm trying to follow along here.

They increase integer stat values.

If you're a tank, big bag beastie smacks you for 98 damage instead of 100 damage.
If you're a dps class, you can go own in pvp or fireball for some more damage.
If you're a healer, well, you can refill other players lifebars better.

Really though? Epic chest piece 1 is used to conquer content to get epic chest piece 2. Rinse. Repeat.

Good Choice with the Priest. Level 1-59 is the best experience ever but once you hit 60, be prepared to heal all day long. It'll make you hate wow.

My old server had a rank 14 shadow priest *shrug*.

I never understood the aversion to healing. Do you feel like the leet hero for spamming autoshot, backstab or heroic strike? Seeing those big numbers over their heads? Well, young Timmy, go roll another night elf rogue. And good luck finding a guild. Healers are the truly powerful classes in MMORPGs, especially WoW where we're able to do astonishing damage in the name of PvP balance while still doing something 5 of 9 classes in the game cannot do - heal. Plus there's an ungodly satisfaction in being able to save someone... then remembering what a jackass they are and how they spam guildchat with insightful comments like "wut 4 plz 2 b ne1 ololol"... and letting them die instead

FWIW on my ele/resto shaman I can lead the damage or healing meter in instances, depending what I'm needed to do (the ability to fill multiple rolls is great), beat just about anyone in a duel aside from a good soul link warlock, and lead kills charts in BGs without even trying; while playing to help the team to win.

Healing is by far the most difficult "challenge" in wow raiding, yeah. That being said, MMOs are not "skill" based games, all that is required is a brain, time, and attitude.

A lot of people prefer dps classes so you can be like "omg 3000 crit fireball pewpew".

Healing requires more than just being there. You have to prioritize based on who's taking damage and what their hp/armor is, and decide on the right heal or defensive spell to use, all on the fly. With my shaman this is pretty simplified, it's lhw, hw or chain heal... but as I'm levelling my priest I'm really seeing the intricacies of it. Regardless, the repetition argument is moot. Anything in human life is repetitious if you get right down to it, including one that most people can't get enough of - sex. It's just one motion, repeated over & over

Healing a DPS specced warrior who insists on tanking with a two-handed weapon is loads of fun lol.

I guess im one of those people who loves to spam sinister strike. I loved leveling my rogue and had considered going back just to get him to 60.

because sitting in the back and watching little bars 99% of the time is not fun...

If you only raid / act as a group healer 99% of the time, that's your own doing.

And people differ. It's a more challenging task. For those for whom spamming sinister strike over and over is a bit too easy, it can be a lot of fun :) In 5mans I actually prefer to heal, though we'll often get a priest and I end up in DPS mode :(

Lastly roll an alt. 99% of healers in the real raiding guilds I've been in have had warrior alts. They're often allowed to attend farm raids. My alts are a druid and a priest though :)

wtf else would a healer do in a raid / group? if you don't heal you'll be yelled at and kicked out of the group

I've led the damage meter on a few ZG runs. A fellow shaman led the meter in an MC run. I've done the same in many 5mans. I have well over +300 damage to lightning spells plus a toep in my dps/pvp gear, specced 31/0/20. Have over 350 healing in my healing gear, so I've got that base covered as well. ItemRack = teh win.

I thought it was a real boring game, only tried it for a few hours though, it was really glitchy at the time. It was a free private server too, so there weren't many people on. I got a fairly good taste of the game though and it just wasn't fun back then. I might try and give it another shot (on a free server somewhere...but don't tell anyone ;) )

you based the game on your experience on a free server? free servers never have a population that can even touch the real server's population. plus there's no support and their usually buggy and fvcked up. no wonder you had a bad experience...

I realize that, that's why I said I should try and give it another chance. Private servers have gotten a lot better since i last tried to play, or so i've heard. Guess I'll find out if i try again.

Frankly, when I thought about it for a while, not much of it is.

Raiding in a nutshell:
1. Spend a few hours a week grinding trash mobs for gold/potions/reputation.
2. Kill all previously conquered bosses every week.
3. Use gold/potions to attempt to conquer new bosses.
4. Deal with the rest of your guildmates/adminstration.

Out of this, 1 and 2 take up the vast majority of your time, and 3 is really the only new part of the game. 4 can be downright irritating.

The fun part lies in getting items I guess, which makes players happy, until you realize how stupid it is to get so excited over a few bytes of code.

private servers are still crap and shouldn't even be mentioned

Pretty much summed it up. I guess working in a big group is fun also. But that is pretty much it.

Different strokes for different folks. I enjoy it enough to be doing it in a sub-par game (though the best of what's out there... sad eh?). If you don't, that's just a testament to human diversity. Find a hobby more to your liking, but don't bash mine.

I'm going to try to PVP I think.... my buddy is going some kind of melee and I'm figuring priest will be easier to get the sick items because it isn't nearly as common as say paladin.

I'm not bashing it, merely offering my experience in over a year and 80ish days played on my main character.

I don't agree with the sub-par part, this is the best raiding game ever created in my opinion. If you enjoy mass raiding wow has polish and innovation that nothing else has, not suprising given who the lead designers are.

Just look at c'thun. Excellent fight, great theory and design. Although part of the reason I quit was the frustration of watching the same idiots die again and again to his dark glare.
