That sucks. Looks like they didn't bother reading his emails, and sent auto-replies.

Bah stupid customer support. Most companies have really crappy customer support. Most of them just read 1 or 2 sentences of what you send them.
I dunno if they are lazy or do it to piss me off, but it happens more than 3/4 of the times.

that really sucks.

if we cared enough, we could probably use the ATOT effect to get blizzard to read his emails.

Here, small claims suit.

Fraud
Theft by Deception

etc :p

He should have sued them for all the money he ever gave them, plus the value of his character if it could be sold on ebay.

He should at the very least continue to pester them... I understand Blizz is trying to crack down on these kinds of things, but to do so and allow things like this to happen is ridiculous. They aren't even giving him the time of day.

The terms of service is essentially a contract.

He gives them money, they give him service.

Their contract states that if he uses third party software he is in breach and subject to suspension.

Because he is not in breach and they cannot prove that he is, they are in breach for suspending him without cause.

Too bad they considered macros as third party software...

actually he should thank blizzard for banning him. he can finally use his time more wisely than to waste it on an MMORPG.

I have not played WoW yet (I play DOAC) but most MMORPG's don't allow macro'ing, which is what you were doing. It doesn't sound like you were doing it to gain an advantage over other players, but in their eyes macro'ing is still macro'ing no matter what you're using it for.

Sorry that they banned your account. Is there a way you can open a new account under a new name, or did they block your IP?

Will the courts consider macros third party software?

Or will blizzard fold before that happens?

He should also instruct his credit card company to do a chargeback on every single dollar.

Its programmable keyboard macros, which they have specifically stated is not a violation in multiple threads on their forums.

Attacking Blizzard won't get him back on. A general plea from the community might.

Yeah, that sucks man. I would put together a coherent single page PROFESSIONAL letter explaining your plight and citing as many sources as possible proving you didn't break any rules. Then start emailing it to anyone you can find to listen. Also snail mail it to their corporate offices.
DO NOT mention you are thinking about legal action. Doing so will force Blizzard to let their legal team handle it and trust me, legal is the black hole of any company. You SHOULD however threaten to lodge a complaint with the US BBB (since that is where Blizzard is based) and/or with the European Better Business Bureau equivalent.

I know this info is for the other side of the pond, but maybe it will help:

Blizzard Entertainment
P.O. Box 18979
Irvine, CA 92623

Phone: 949-955-1380
Fax: 949-737-2000

? Michael (Mike) Morhaime: President
? Paul Sams: SVP, Business Operations
? Julia Gastaldi: Director of Communications and Community, Europe (Call her if no luck with Jeffery below)

Contact: Jeffery Smith - Customer Service Manager (Best place to start!)
Phone: (949) 955-1382

# (800) 592-5499 (not sure where this number goes to)

So for cliffs:
- Generate a complete detail of your plight that looks professional and fits on a single page
- Contact Jeffery Smith and if you cannot get him contact Julia Gastaldi
- DO NOT mention legal but threaten BBB/EU Equiv.

Good luck!

What a load of crap. They ban legit players like this yet they allow the damned spambots to still spam like crazy in the game.
Brilliant.

This guy cheated by using a programmable keyboard. WoW has taken HUGE steps to prevent botting and cheating. Without these steps, WoW would end up like every other MMORPG, dead within a few short years.

I see nothing wrong with their decision.

Dead? Hell UO is still running and it is 10 years old now. WoW is the current EQ but eventually another game will come along and drain a large chunk of their base just like every other game irregardless of the professional gamers and griefers. I would actually like to see the churn numbers for WoW. I would bet they are a lot higher than EQ was 1.5 years after initial release because it is too easy to get to level 60 in WoW at which time you either need to become a hard core raider or find another game.

The only MMO customer support I have had a good dealing with was WB's when they were running MXO. The worst was Mythics. Oh I hate mythic. This guy think he has it bad? Try getting charged for a game you don't even play... for 8 months. My emails back and forth were a lot more frustrating.

BINGO

my brother also had problems with getting his WoW account suspended. They repeatedly accused him of using some sort of speed hack. My brother denied it, because he hasnt ever done such a thing. But Blizzard went by their logs which were 'proof' that he was lying.

They cancelled his account, basically told him that he was lying, and didnt respond to any more of his emails.

Then he contacted the BBB, and what do you know, the next day blizzard emails him back and apologizes for their misjudgment, and re-enables his account.

Go figure. I used to look up to blizzard, until I heard stories like this.

Actually, if you read his entire post, he did not cheat using the keyboard. It was posted on the European forums that using those kinds of keyboards was okay.
