People run the OS that run the software they want to use...
I wish more game makes would start making game for both Win/Linux
ID software really been good about this and I was so happy to hear that UT2K3 would run on linux
If more games are made for linux then more people would run/try linux
other game makes would see this and start make more games for linux

if this happen then we would see more software being made for both win and linux also more hardware with better linux drivers...etc etc....

Actually, I don't think we want the same thing. I want easy gaming on a SINGLE PLATFORM. That way, development time is shortened and games are designed to work on that platform and that platform alone (meaning fewer bugs and better performance). I don't really care what that platform is. But right now, Windows has the most clout, so I'm supporting it.

Thats silly, it's perfectly ok to make games platform independant, ID does it, other people do it. Just because it works only on one platform doesn't mean that it runs better or is easier to create then a game made to run on many platforms.

Look at how many games are made to work for PC, gamecube, playstation, and Xbox at the same time.

There is a hell of a lot bigger difference between the Wintel, Xbox, Playstation, and Gamecube then there is between Linux vs Windows.

Anyone wondering why Blizzard avoids Linux only needs to look at the failure of Loki games.

It could be much better with good commercial support.

I guess Americans get ripped off on Windows

WinXP Home Edition

$141.63 and it includes a mouse & case fan

Link

And that?s in Canadian $$ which is worth less then US $$

I believe they ship to the US, so you can order a copy for about $100US.

First of all, that's XP home. There is no point for a power user to buy home. If I am going to be forced to use Windows, I want a full version. Plus it's OEM. I don't want OEM. There are even MORE restrictions with it.

Also why would I petition to have Blizzard not do a port to Linux? If they want to do it, it is their waste of money, not mine.

Because you seem so against it.

Anyways I am not bashing Linux, I think it is a great OS. It is just nowhere near being there for "commercial" games yet (Loki?). And like someone said it can be great for games, that Tux Racer game is fun :D

Loki failed. That's a lesson. Learning without failure is incomplete.

The ps2, xbox, or gamecube are your best bets then.

Those bastards waste energy writing games for multiple consoles... they should just write for one. We should just have one console. That'd be best.

The games I play are typically only released on one console. :D

I know that was said tongue and cheek, but it's true. That way you could play every game released without dropping $200 for another console. Yeah, I'd like a variety of controllers/sensitivities/options so I could personalize it a bit, but wouldn't it be nice to be able to play Halo, Socom, Metroid, Escape Velocity, and Starcraft all on the same system (and all without emulation)?

This is definitely a much larger issue than just consoles. It applies to everything - if competitors got together and focused their efforts on one super-thingiemabob, then it would be the GREATEST ever! ... Except that all of the competition would be gone, and whatever benefit you gained from their combined efforts would soon be overshadowed by lack of innovation due to lack of competition. You a commie or something? ;) ;) ;)

THAT'S KIND OF WHAT WE WANT TOO.

I guess if it benefits you, you're all about it. But if it doesn't matter in any way share or form it can be damned. Whatever. The small "me only!" attitude is worth than the typical "me first!" attitude.

I'd love to play starcraft again without having to rely on some crappy re-engineering effort.

It's "late" and I just got that "I won't be coming in today" call...
