Hey folks.

I'm on vacation and my friend is having World of Warcraft issues. He needs to upgrade, and is looking at spending $200. This is what I've put together, but I'd like to get your opinions, since I know zero about the game.

He has:

Athlon XP 2400+
384MB PC2700
Geforce 4 MX4000 64MB PCI Video
40GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
Windows XP.

I told him to get 1GB of PC3200 and a Radeon 9800 Pro. They appear to be the bottle necks in the system. Do you guys agree?

Edit: After looking at the Anandtech guide to WoW and talking with him, we're now thinking about a 6600GT video card.

i wouldnt say really good, but it would be a lot better than what he is running it now.

and yes chaotic, those 2 things are huge bottle necks. i think its amazing he can run it at all with that set up.

Isn't a 6600gt a better price/performance card now? And yeah, ram + video card ftw

Thanks, guys. We went ahead and ordered a 6600GT and 1GB of memory.

yeah you'll definetly be good to go at that point, and of course down the line when he has more money a new mobo and cpu will help greatly...
