Isn't this basically a referral scheme? If those people sign up off of the guest passes he gets a free month? Or are these the ones that come in the retail boxes?

How is this the same as posting a referal link? The WoW retail box comes with a guest pass, so you can give it to a friend to try the game out for a week.

The collector's edition guest pass is different then the one from the WoW website, depends on which he is sending...

He's not offering the box guest passes. If that were the case he wouldn't have "two accounts worth". He's offering up the Refer A Friend codes you can generate and send to people, which are limited by account. If the person using your code signs up, you get a free month. This IS a referral link, in that he has something to gain. The only reason it MIGHT be acceptable is that there is currently no completely free way to try WoW except for this method. The next cheapest option is the $1.99 trial discs you can buy. The problem is that anyone who is a WoW subscriber would be more than happy to send you a referral, so if this guy's allowed to do it everyone's going to do it.

Assume away folks...

Or...may be...it's the free guest pass that you get when you buy a 60 day game card. The one that doesn't give the holder anything for free when used. Since those were just on sale at Circuit City for $19.99, OP may have bought a few, like I did. OP may have thought he'd 'give back' to these boards by offering them, like I was thinking.

Nah, lets just assume OP is only posting for personal gain. It makes us feel so much better about ourselves, doesn't it?

Here is the fine print on the ones that I have:

How to use the 10-day guest pass:
1. Give a friend this guest pass key.
2. Loan your friend your Game CDs to install World of Warcraft on his or her machine (your friend will not need the CDs to play the game after installation).
3. Have your friend enter the Guest Pass Key when prompted during the installation process (the Key can only be used one).
4. Your friend will have 10 days of free access to World of Warcraft.

First ten (10) days free; retail version of game required thereafter
Internet connection required
Addition online fees apply with retail version of game

***end of fine print***

No where does it say you will get a free month if used, or any other benefit.

:disgust:

Don't rule out the possibility that he has multiple WoW accounts.. I know 2 or 3 people at my work alone that use 2 wow accounts so they can use different races on the same server.. (they bought the game twice, and pay double a month)

Hangin the accused while the jury is still out...

I completely agree. This is similar to a referral link. Therefore this thread needs to be locked and/or deleted.

If it was one of those free passes you get when you buy the game, why didn't the OP just say s/he had two free passes? Instead, the OP said s/he had "two accounts worth." That leads me to also believe that these are Refer A Friend codes.

This should have been posted in either the Off Topic forum, For Sale/Trade forum (list it as FREE), or Software forum.

I dont know anything about a referral system (maybe I should look into it eh?).
I just know that I got an email from blizzard for my 2 account (mine and my wife's) and it said I have 3 per account to give away. It didn't mention anything about a free month for me. I started playing with a guestpass because I didn't want to shell out the money for another game that will just sit in its cd case. I have tried 3 mmo's and didn't like any of them (Star wars, Guild Wars and The Matrix). I wasn't about to waste my money on another one. I downloaded the software and tried it out and actually liked it. I have only been playing for 2 months now and I'm hooked. I thought I would pass on the chance for others to try it out too.

By the way, I guess I need an email address. I only have a couple left, so its first come first serve.

Yup... got that exact same email a couple months back. It's for their referral program. You send the referral to a persons email address (that's why you "need an email address") and if they sign up for it and then actually buy the game and pay for at least a month of play time you get a free month of play time on that account.
