On the world of warcraft performance article found here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2381

Whoever rights these articles, the anandtech gods or whatever, say they don't like the glow effect b/c it makes it look like a playstation game! Of course, he does his comparison on darnassus, which happens to glow more than anything else in the game that I've seen, most of the time its a lot more tame, but i imagine hes played the game and knows what it really looks like. I really love the glow effect. Is that so wrong?

The fixed the pixelation a few patches ago. I use full screen glow effect @ 1600x1200 with 4xaa/16af and it looks beautiful.

I played with it on for a long time not noticing the option for it. I was quite bothered by it and once I got a look at the game without it I thought the graphics improved greatly.

The textures in WoW are "oversized" already - they seem rather stretched to begin with. The detail and "sharpness" suffer and glow effect seems to make this much worse.

It's a personal preference thing. My opinion is the opposite from yours but I'll gladly stick up for you if someone says you are "wrong".

I also prefer it off. I tried it a while ago and simply could not stand it. I lasted about 30 minutes with it on before I went back to no full screen glow.

Try it both ways and use whichever you like. As has been said, there is no right or wrong here, just preference.

Agreed. Unless you have it on, in which case you are wrong, and a bad person.

I prefer it on. I just like the way it looks. I like the way it slightly softens the entire scene, and I feel it gives a little more "atmosphere" to the environments.

This is a funny thread. I have sat and agonized over which I like better and can't decide. Then I would think to myself "Which is the right way?" as in, what did the developers intend. This is a sickness, I admit. I have been playing with it off, but I like the water effects with it on when you're under water. I guess I don't see what they mean by making it look like a PS2 game, but the statement made me ruminate about it even more. Because God forbid my PC game look like one of those ;)

I'll give it a try again tonight. It is useful when playing in the daytime. It brightens the screen in a way different than playing with the gamma settings. It gets so light in my house even with blinds drawn it is hard to play before the late afternoon/early evening. Unfortunately it sems to mildly distort the colors. My blue helm looks somewhat green with the option on.
