Having a huge thread for something as diverse as a MMO is simply obtuse.

Considering the size of the World of Warcraft thread I wonder how busy a subforum of its own would be.

It's pretty off base IMHO. Since before the first expansion Blizzard has been making the game easier, so that it takes less time, not more, to see the kind of endgame content that used to be reserved for only the most hardcore players. It more accessible now than ever to the casual player who will only log in for 5-10 hours a week.

I find them to be very useful in all PvE situations. I can't speak for PvP.
