Oooh. Didn't know this was happening now. Carlsen is the highest rated player ever, right?

I wouldn't mind either player winning. Vishy Anand seems like a good guy, but he's been the champion for a while. Carlsen, you have to think, is going to win it at some point.

Edit: 4:30 AM EST? FUCK!

Yeah, it's pretty cool how it all goes down, it's not like they just sit down and play chess. Anand and Carlsen will prepare for the match by working with other Grandmasters and computer simulations to develop new opening sequences that may be a dozen moves long, after they use them in the match, chess geeks will analyze them with their own software to determine if there are weaknesses in the openings. If they are found to be "sound" you'll see club level players adopt them.

Holy crap, Carlsen takes game 5!

Anand's a damn good fighter, match lasted 58 moves. I have to say, so many of the world's top players are douchebags, but Anand and Carlsen both seem like pretty good guys.

Long way to go in this. I think Carlsen is stronger once they get to the endgame, but I think Anand still has some strengths he can fall back on, his opening and prep are probably superior.

Next game should be amazing, can't wait to see what Anand comes up with.

BTW, best place to watch the games is here: www.twitch.tv/chessnetwork

National Master streams the moves in and gives good analysis of possible lines from each position. Fantastic stuff.

what if the game is mixed up and additional tiles are added? that would make it more interesting after centuries of being unchanged.

There are already lots of chess variations. The most popular is Chess960 where the pieces are given random starting locations (still behind the pawns though) to avoid repetitive opening lines.

Rooting for carlsen, but Anand seems like a pretty normal guy as well so I wouldn't mind if he won.

Oh, and on Sachdev, hotness not found.

Carlsen wins with the black pieces! 4-2!

Anand is in deep, deep trouble. He needs a team Oracle style miracle now.

On the edge of my seat watching game nine. Anand is bringing it! Anand does NOT want another protracted end game.

Oh, Anand. What an incredible blunder! Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. It could have been an entirely new match, but now it's over.

Anand wasn't winning in that position. It was probably a draw if he played accurately, but it was a bad blunder. He said he knew it as soon as he made the move too, it must've been a terrible feeling.

I didn't see it live, but I heard that as soon as Anand moved his knight to f1 Carlsen moved his second queen from c1 to e1 and got up from the table. That was it.

It's all but over now, 6-3 in favor of Carlsen. He only needs a draw in one of the last three games to win the match.

At this stage, with a 6-3 score, I think this championship is all but wrapped up now, and the baton has been passed on to the new world champion.

For this latest game, I'm no Grandmaster myself, but methinks the game was lost in the previous move(s) when black was allowed to create a second Queen. After that, whichever move Anand chose was moot.

How is it possible to analyze what went on considering these are the 2nd and 3rd best players in the world, and nobody here on this forum is the best player in the world?

Anand still had the possibility for a draw at that point because of the strength of his attack on Carlsen's King. Carlsen would have been forced to sacrifice his second queen to prevent Anand from acheiving checkmate. The line is quite simple and if you search for reviews of the game on youtube I'm sure it will be explained completely.

Computers. They are almost flawless at the end game in analyzing board position and who has a possibility for a win. Just to give you a sense, before Anand moved his knight to the back rank, the computer analysis was that Carlsen was winning by about half a pawn. After the move the analysis showed Carlsen was winning by more than six pawns. That's lights out.

If that's not good enough for you, Anand said it himself in the press conference. He said he just got excited and thought there was a better move than the one he had been considering, and he didn't realize that by vacating the h3 square with his knight he was opening the diagonal for the queen.

And btw, these are not the 2nd and 3rd best players. They are, without question, the two best players in the world. Anand has like 5 title defenses and Carlsen is the highest rated player ever. It doesn't get much more unequivical than that. That's why this match was so highly anticipated.

So this is mostly reiterating computer data not analysis provided based on personal expertise. I was kind of going wtf reading this thread. Clears that up, thanks.
