Workplace and MLK

Since my workplace decided to put up a huge picture of MLK because his day is Monday, I wonder if I make a big enough stink, they'll put up a picture of Christopher Columbus in October to honor his day, since I am Italian. Reverse political correctness, seems if it's good for one, it should be good for all.

You guys are both reverse geniuses.

except MLK actually did do something good to advance the cause for humanity. Segregation was very much brutal back then, and he was a major player in stopping it.

Cristobal Colombo only did what everyone else was doing, and he got the most publicity for it, because Isabella sent him first.

MLK actually did something for this country... Columbus accidentaly ran into it and killed everyone in sight.

Maybe instead of rolling your eyes you care to explain your position, which seems to be that a mass murderer should be honored on the same level as a civil rights activist?

You're an idiot. Honoring Martin Luther King has nothing to do with political correctness.

Then he should be honored without me being subjected to seeing a 50 foot picture of him in the lobby of my workplace. No other holiday is celebrated or mentioned with decorations, etc, so why is this so-called holiday given preferental treatment?

He was just scared of people he didn't know. He was a product of ill education and brainwashing by the queen of Spain. You know how things are.

More like another Christian zealot asshole who killed those who opposed his close minded oppresive ideas. He deserves nothing but a shallow watery grave.

No, you get a rolleyes for oversimplifying the story with total focus and exaggeration of the negative.

"Subjected"? Oh poor you. Having to look at a picture of a black guy who ended up taking a bullet because he stood up for racial equality. Pull the stick out of your ass and look at the big picture. Racism was and is a problem in the US. How is taking a moment to think about this "subjecting" you to anything?

I'm sorry, can you find a positive in the mass murder of Native Americans? I'd love to hear it.

There you go again. You focus on one single negative aspect of a much more complex story... and you judge it by 20th century ethics rather than the mindset of the time.

Yes, you're right, we should put on rose colored glasses and forget about 'the negative.' I am now seeing mass murders in a new light! Charles Manson was a good guy; he promoted family values and made people feel like they belong. Ed Gein promoted recycling by using all that dead skin and human parts. I am sorry I have been so blind, I guess the whole "Native American genocide" thing made me forget about all those great things Columbus did.
