Workout question

Does it matter how long i take between sets of press ups? Or sets of anything really?

I do 4x25 every 2nd day, along with some weight stuff, just to keep in shape, usually go to the gym, but not recently, not until this tatoo i got has healed.

To my knowledge, less rest will give you a better / more intense workout.

Pretty high reps, though..have you considered increasing weight & dropping down to 10-12 reps?

Reading your post, it implies that you do light weight/high reps of just about everything. 😉

Consider cranking it up a notch & build some strength. Up to you, of course. 🙂

yes, 30 secs max

you get toxic fluid buildup in your muscles if you wait too long

Just tried, with 30 secs rest i can do 25 to start with , but then i onl managed 17 before i just sorta collapsed 😛 You sure 1 min or 1 min 30 rest will affect my performance that much??

4x25 of what? Not sure what you mean by press ups. Do you mean military or bench or???

I'm confused.

It really depends on what you're training for. 25 reps is a hell of a lot of reps to do for anything.

Yea, ive been lifting 12 reps of the dumbells, theyre as heavy as they can get, 17.5 pounds. I can manage 12 reps of that pretty easy, which is why i started doing press ups, i weigh 70kg and thats harder to lift 🙂 But i dont tear into it like mr motivator or anythin, i take rests of like 2 mins between 25 press ups. I dunno, i cant cut the 30 second rest, i was kinda wondering if less reps with a shorter rest was a good idea?

Like instead of 4x25 - 2-3 mins rest (dependant on how sore i am)
6 x 15 - with 30 secs -1 min rest

Press ups, push ups, its got different names. When you get down on your toes and hands, face down, and push yourself up and down. Basically...

Ahh OK I see. We call them push-ups here. 🙂

~2 mins is a good start. Depending on your body type and fitness level you'll want to eventually start cutting the time you're resting as you get in better shape. Push-ups are a great exercise, but don't neglect your back (lats). It's easy to get injured if you're totally out of balance with pushing and pulling muscles.

For a good superset, do your 25 press ups immediately followed by 25 reps of bent over barbell or dumbell rows. Obviously stick to a fairly light weight to start. You'll be damn tired after 50 reps.

Good luck.

Kewl. I dont actually do any back exercise, got bored of the compound row over a year ago. What are bendover dumbell rows? It sounds like i should try these.

Yes it matters A LOT.

It 'controls' the intensity of your work out.

Short rest [10-60seconds]= very intense work out
Longer rest [90-180seconds]= much easier work out

Time how short 60seconds rest is inbetween a set you do. It is 'short' and it will keep the intensity of the work out very high.

If your lifting heavy [3-6rep range] you will want a long rest period to maximise your strength gains.

If your lifting for size [12-15+ reps] you want 60seconds rest. The counter starts once you stop and before you get back to doing it again.

Depending on what you want from your training you will pick a rest time.

It is good to mix it up every 6-8-12 weeks so you are a 'rounded' person and get the full benefits of a balance training schedule 🙂
