Working with about $1500, can you build a nice Gaming PC

I'm hoping to be able to get something decent. Preferably AMD 64bit.
From what I've read it seems to be the way to go for gaming. I'd also like to get a mobo
thats PCI-e. I've seen on a few sites the SLI dual gfx cards mobos, but can't afford 2 decent gfx cards. I'd appreciate any suggestions, trying to get this project off the ground before my wife spends my money. LOL:roll🙁as if thats ever happened to a guy before)

Take a look at the system building thread to get you in the ballpark of what you might want.

There's a $1661 configuration at the bottom of the first post with a pretty solid configuration. This could be a good starting point for you.

You can shave some of that off with some less expensive ram (corsair value select is fairly popular), maybe a cheaper case, and skip buying windows if you already have it.

Newegg is a very nice site to shop at, but sometimes you can get better prices by going elsewhere.

If your budget needs to include a monitor and other peripherals (keyboard/mouse/speakers etc.), then you might want to start with the $1036 system and work from there.

EDIT: wow, forgetting about my reply window caused quite a gap in my response time.
what are you still doing up ribbon?
actually I guess it is time for bed...

I wouldn't send people to that thread. UsandThem needs to learn how to use paragraphs and indentation for such a long post. And he reccomends a 6800 GT in 'the beast' when an X850 is faster and cheaper... Also he could group common components among the PC classes to make it more readable and shorter.

So, what do you think?

Evercase is hailed for keeping PCs nice and quiet, and it uses a 120mm fan.
That Evercool fan moves a lot of air for how quiet it is, and has an aluminum chassis to boot.
Seasonic are among the very best PSUs, have Active PFC so they are efficient, and the Tornado series uses a 120mm fan so its very quiet

That Patriot ram is the very best deal for fast 1024MB sticks, and also for extremely tight timings.
AMD speaks for itself.
The DFI board is really nice and uses quality caps.
Sapphire makes all of the "Made by ATI" cards, and the x850 is the best single video card solution out.
The NEC 3520a burner is the best, hands down.
The Syba allows you to put that burner on a SATA channel so you don't have to use a IDE ribbon at all.
Seagate is #1 for hard drive quality.
The Logitech keyboard is very popular though I would never but it.
The MX510 is the very best gaming mouse there is.

I believe(or was recently told) I'll need a windows 64-bit system. My XP Pro won't work
with this processor. Is this correct

i wouldnt recommend that "fast" RAM ribbon recommended. a gig of regular value ram for $120 will be just as fast.

only thing i might change would be get alittle cheaper ram 1gb ocz for 150 . if you do overclock this ram is said to be the same as the vx line. i wouldn't get the ata->sata adapter but thats just preference, and i'd get alittle better case1 or maybe case2 since you do have a 1500 budget why not use it and get a little faster processor. overall i'd say ribbon's recommendation is pretty good for you.

Case1 takes an 80mm fan and Case2 comes with a cheap psu. See previous post on why I chose a single fast stick.

well i would definately still use the recommended psu. if that memory is the same as the vx line like its been said to be, it'll run 1T, and the dfi board will give it the voltage it needs.

*edit* unless i'm missing something on that evercase it says its steel. not that there is anything wrong with that...

I'm saying 3 sticks of any ram == 2T
If he ever wanted 1.5GB or 2GB with the ram I reccomened he wouldn't take performance hit.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions, ribbon i'd never heard of zipzoomfly before.
I told a friend about it and he sent me this config after searching their site for a while.
All the pieces here are from zipzoomfly, I thought that would be a plus as far as shipping.
I was just wondering if it would all work together or would there be compatibility issues.
