So I'm up and running, got my progs installed, etc. I'm not sure exactly how I got the thing to boot the XP SP2 disc, but it did. Once I got the right SATA drivers on a disk, everything went quite swimmingly. Now, though, I can't seem to play CounterStrike Source. It hangs, never at the same place, then reboots. Talk about annoying!

works just fine, although I think one of my ethernet ports literally just stopped working the other night. so now i am using the realtek port as the nvidia port seems to have just died ?!?!?

Have any of you had AGP issues with either the MSI or Asus boards? Since that was my issue all along, I'm going to be very careful about which video card I choose this time. With my pal's 9800Pro-->XT card I crash in the middle of CounterStrike:Source all the time. I've tried disabling AGP fastwrites and monkeying with various other AGP settings, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

BTW:

Asus A8V Deluxe
1GB OCZ PC3200 Platinum EL
AMD64 3200+ @ 210 (2.1GHz)
2x Hitachi Deskstar 80Gb SATA drives
WinXP Pro SP2
WinXP x64

Hello

Well I have a solid configuration which is:

Athlon64 3200 S754
DFi LanpartyUT nForce 3 250GB
Kingston Value Ram 2x512meg
Seagate Barracuda SATA 200Gb
Kingwin Mutant-X case w/420W PSU stock
Leadtek A400 nVidia 6800 128 meg video card
SB Audigy2 Value
Pioneer 108A 16X DVD Burner

I've not had any issues with my system except the onboard lan will not grab an IP from my cable modem. Haven't been able to solve this issue and when I put in a PCI nic it won't grab one either. I've been told its the chipset issues. I think its something else but I use a USB nic and it works. But I am looking to get a Socket 939 board and CPU with a BFG 6800GT in two weeks. Should I go back to intel?

Can't speak for Asus boards but I've used a MX4000, FX5500, FX5900XT, FX5950 Ultra, and a 6800GT in the MSI boards with no issues. Well, these were VIA K8T800 and K8T800 Pro chipset MSI boards. YMMV.

There have been a lot of postings to this topic, so please forgive me if someone has already addressed this problem and I just missed it: I have the system shown below, with the F6 BIOS, all the latest drivers from Gigabyte and ATI and running Windows XP with SP2.

The system runs just fine as long as I don't try to run a 3D game like Splinter Cell2 or Half Life 2. If I try to run either of those games (all latest updates) the game loads, runs for a little while (1-2 minutes) and then either crashes back to the desktop or shuts down the computer entirely. Anyone have any thoughts as to whether this is a graphics card settings problem, a BIOS settings problem, some other setting or software problem or a hardware problem? I have (predictably) gotten little or no help from any vendor.

Any suggestions, other than the use of a small explosive device followed by the purchase of a new computer (that one I've thought of myself) would be appreciated.

[I've also posted this message on a few other topics, hoping that someone will reply. I promise I'm not spamming!]

I might as well chime in. Currently non-OC, very stable, 1 week old setup

AMD64 socket 939 3200+
MSI Neo2 Platinum - BIOS 1.3 factory preset, no probs with Winchester install
512x2 Patriot XBL TCCD RAM 2-2-2-5
512x2 Mushkin Basic Green form Newegg 2.5-3-3-7 ~$135/gig
Tested with all 4 above simultaneously @ 2.5-3-3-7 T2
Chaintek 5500FX
160gig IDE Seagate
NEC 3500 DVD-RW
Thermaltake Truepower 420w (bios readings 3.3v +, 5v +, 12v=11.91v)
Want to test good FSP-300w PSU also soon.

Tested first with only mobo, RAM, Video, PSU, ran Memtest off Knoppix CD, all checked ok

Win2000 SP4 all works with correct drivers, loaded Win2000 w/o any problems, installed SP4, then drivers

Multi booting Linux - VERY BRIEF Tests, sound & Nvidia On-chip LAN issues possibly, no other drivers installed/tested

Knoppix - worked with "knoppix26 noscsi", very nice little setup!, slow

Debian - Sarge installed easy (minimal then it builds off current packages, nice) sound & Nvidia on-chip issues, Realtek ok, IDed Win2000 in bootup

Ubuntu AMD64 - installed cleanly IDed both LAN chips, sound worked of at startup but didn't play CD, Recognized Debian but wiped Win2000 boot, installed in 64bit supposidly, BROWN?

Libranet 2.8.1 - installed ok late 2.4 kernel, IDed Win2000 ok, Realtek LAN only, no sound, tried a quick massive upgrade but failed, I love this desktop!!

Sun Solaris - installed in 64bit, 640x480 sceeen didn't have options, Realtek LAN (?), stated it would NOT work with Linux, it wiped the entire drive during install, didn't like either desktop interface, bye-bye.

Gentoo64 - install did not recognize either LAN, I got LAN working but decided to punt based on previous installs.

WinXP-64 - looks like XP and had the same annoying "features" like the doggy search helper, installs some in program files some in program files x86, kind of confusing what its doing I feel.

Later testing - Novell/Suse 9.1 and Fedora Core 3, I have used Fedora Core 2 in the past

Just replaced an Asus A8V Rev2 myself after i couldnt even get it to post.
