I still can't figure out why you don't just move to one of the other great countries since you hate your country so much.

Oh yeah, you're just trolling as usual. You don't even put much effort into it.

That may in fact happen, you never know.

In the meantime I don't have to be happy about how people like you have destroyed this once great Country.

I'm fairly certain computer-related work is generally exempt from salary overtime rules.

I used to work at a company where they would totally exploit people at times. On big projects in other states, they would force everyone to work overtime without pay.

Do you have a fund set up for the ticket purchase? Post the link and I'm sure we can get it stickied and help you get out sooner.

ahh...the joys of salary.

i remember when a friend of mine was looking for a job and was upset that it wasn't salary.

back on topic, it looks like you only have to do this for a few weeks. does your company allow for comp time? which is different from pto. i also thought that you can always cash out pto that you don't use.

OK a lot of BS here and some good info.

First off salary does not mean you do not get overtime. Overtime, as GuideBot was saying, is based on if you are a Exempt or non-Exempt employee. A LOT of lawsuits have been filed in the last several years, and Bush did not help this either with his adjustment to who is and who is not allowed overtime, and the majority of the time the employee wins. I think EA games was even caught up in they lets work people to death and say they are exempt from overtime. Well like most companies it did not work and they lost their case.

fLum0x, what is your title and what is the list of duties for your job. Are you other peoples manger? etc...

Recently, it has come to my attention that starting monday for 3-4 weeks they are requiring 72 hour work weeks. Now, some of this is due to the mistakes the department has made and some due to customer demands. Meanwhile, we do not and i have been told will not see a dime of this money after a few 72 hours weeks. Basically, we are doing charity work and not getting recognized. Do you think this is right? If yes, how so? If no, what would you do about this issue?

The only real answer i have thought of that would make me happy is going hourly. Anyways, give me your advice and what you would do please. dankee.

Work and then start hinting around a promotion.

Most computer work is exempt from federal law. Just go read it and you will see. The EA suit related to graphic arts which is not exempt according to the FLSA rules.

I don't know about state law, especially not in indiana. But I find it likely that most states exclude most computer work.

Since EVERYONE is having to do it, I don't think that'll get him anyway.

Really, it's only 3-4 weeks. 3-4 weeks that will suck, but then it'll be over. Smart employers know that making their employees work overtime for extended periods of time DECREASES productivity, not increases it, and this sounds like an isolated incident in the OP's case. Although it doesn't sound like he's been working for very long, so maybe not. If it persists, the OP should find another job. Eventually his company will realize that what they are doing is bad. It's bad for morale, and that's bad for productivity.

you wait until this whole thing is over and then wait until the next quarterly bonus or 6 months or some period of time. Then do you confront a supervisor or someone above him/her even? Obviously, I dont want to make myself look like a greedy whore to them. I do like my job a lot and i would definitely work more hours if they just paid normal pay or 1.5x like most other overtime.

You are salaried. You probably get paid days off. While it won't be fun working that many hours, they don't have to pay you time and a half or anything like that. Alternatively you could quit.
