So I have been working out for about a year now. Usually one day on one day off. On my on days I will be at the gym for about 2 - 3 hours or so (Includes cardio and sauna time).

For the past couple of months I have been having problems sleeping. Some nights its really bad where I don't sleep at all. Its all mainly due to neck and shoulder soreness. I mainly will have the sleepless nights about a day after I work out my shoulders and back and it will last until I take a break on working those 2 areas out.

It's not some joint pain or pulled a muscle pain but more like a "Stayed in bed to long pain" but I'll get after just laying in bed for a few minutes.

Taking sleep meds like any PM stuff or Benadryl works fine but its not something I wanna grow dependent on to sleep. Even bought a freakin $100 neck pillow to see if it will help but it didn't.

Any of you guys ever experience the same problem?

Odd. I sometimes can't sleep after working out, but that's because it energizes me, not from some kind of soreness. Try seeing a massage therapist if you can afford it the day after you work those areas. That should help. Also, make sure you're drinking enough water and getting enough protein after your workouts.

Yeah, I think a massage therapist would help. Its just for some reason my muscles feel like they stay tense. Through out they day I really don't notice but it sucks when I go to bed because I feel as stiff as a board.

I recently stopped taking my pre-workout drinks (NOxplode or SuperPump, etc) because it just wires me to much. I still feel the effects after my workout which I think may be causing some of the problem. Also thinking about swtiching off of Muscle Milk as my post workout drink and look for something that is pretty much only protein. I know MM has some added stuff in it.

Another suggestion which I'm thinking you aren't doing -- stretch. Especially stretch after your workouts. Do something light on the day after you work the muscles causing you problems. I mean really light, like some easy calisthenics like you used to do in high school gym class. Just something to get the muscles and lymph system going.

Also, a warmup is pretty much essential to healthy muscle development. If you don't warmup, you increase the likelihood of injury and often times get more sore in the process due to unnecessary tearing of muscle fibers.

QFT Especially on days that I increase my long distances. It's crazy to get up at 5am to run and be wired at midnight still.
