I'm a sysadmin for a large org and we've been totally slammed with high priority stuff the last few weeks, so I'm putting in a little OT today. It's actually great. There's no one in the building to barge into my office, I have my trance blasted as loud as I want, overall just great peace and quiet...well maybe not quiet - the windows are shaking from my sub.

Anyone else working on their day off and not mind it too much? I think I may be alone on this one...

Oh, and FWIW I work for government, that's why no one is here.

I worked at least 6 days per week for most of my working career...Saturday was just another day...although one that paid overtime...

I remember when I worked in an office, I was scheduled for Sundays (it was still a 5 day week, though). It was my favorite day by far, half the office was empty, everyone was really relaxed, got to watch football while working, etc. Just a totally different feeling than weekdays.

I'm a grad student so I apparently work more 8 days a week, if you define a day to be 8 hours of work.

Oh how I wish they'd let us work from home. We have VPN they just make us come in. Even though all I do is sit at my desk and do exactly what I could do from home. It's baffling to me.

On salary it sucks, when you are hourly and it's over time it rocks. 4 hours on a Saturday esp if you can call the hours is great.

I used to do 7-11am as most I knew were still sleeping...I'd be a little tired getting in usually around 3am the night before, but by noon I caught my second wind.

Yep, I use to work weekends. I could do anything I wanted, had 3 rooms to screw around in and few ins and outs. Only problem is that if you do that for months at a time, you start miss having people around...

We had a major project upgrading Panasonic Toughbooks this weekend. I was in at 6am and left about 6pm. Plus, I get to bill for my travel time and I live an hour away from work. So today was a 14 hour day at 1.5x my pay. I go back tomorrow to help finish everything up. I'm figuring about 4-6 hours tomorrow + another 2 hours travel time, but sundays are double time. Assuming 10 hours with travel, I'll get paid the equivalent of 21 hours for Sat and another 20 for Sun. Add to it the other 8 hours OT I had from M-F and and the 7 from the week before, and my check next Fri will be for the equivalent of 143.5 hours. SWEET!!!!

Oh...and they fed us today, too. Good times.

I have worked many times in large industrial settings where I was just about the only one there. It's funny when you get engrossed in your work and come across someone else who is also working. It can startle you.

I hate working over 35-40 hours a week, free time is the essence of life in my opinion.

Working weekends is nice as long as you don't have to make a habit out of it. It can also suck if you don't get a break during the week, and need to work 8-5 or 9-6 for 6 days straight :(

Last job i had was in the Alberta oil/tar sands (Canada) working on a plant shut down (fixing broken processing plants). Lived in a work camp for 24 days (plus the day early i showed up to make sure i was there on time), 12 hours a day 7 days a week the whole time. It wasn't my cup of tea so i took a lay off, hoping to find another job with those hours with 4/8 day break in between (though i'm dreading the going back in the winter with the temp droping down to -40c sometimes)

I had a good time working 8 am - 4 pm today.

no OT (I switched with someone to work today and have off on monday), but I watched 6 episodes of The Sopranos (finished discs 2 and 3 of Season 2), a documentary on Netflix, and got to leave an hour early because my relief came in early.
