i just want the diode so i can have my cnc laser cutter...

I was wondering about this as well. 1W actually isn't much for a laser cutter, and it's a much shorter wavelength than is usually used for cutters, but I would think it could handle thick papers an maybe chipboard/thin wood at a slow enough speed if properly focused.

But yeah, as a gizmo, these things are horrible accidents waiting to happen. you could blind someone near instantly from 200m away, and few people understand how easy it is for a reflection to go somewhere unintended.

In other news, sources inside the FAA confirmed all pilots will be required to wear Laser safety glasses due to asshats shining powerful lasers at planes during takeoff and landing.

Told you people Rubycon is the wrong person to piss off.

Oh those 24 1 watt beams are harmless. Now if they are working as an ion painter and you're about to be on the receiving end of a 55+ YJ x-ray laser then you won't even have the time to think how far your ashes will fly about! 😱

There is an easy way around this, build a series of 6 or 12 of these lasers in a ring and in the center have a resistant shaft with a reflective/absorbant disk at top

that way it doesn't go on for millenia but you can still whack someone and burn the crap out of them

First shipment of these is arriving to users and its performance is rather underwhelming according to laser aficionados. 🙁

Beam quality is poor, highly divergent and has considerable astigmatism. Typically these multimode diodes are moderately astigmatic however the simple collimation has no correction. Videos showing this are beginning to appear as well as rather lackluster "burning" performance. With a direct diode laser having the ability to "focus" is essential and this product does not allow this. You get what you pay for. (some people may not even get that!) 😱

That's not a working lightsaber. Fucking morons.

Actually Chris Tao never said it was. The media did and that's what prompted George Lucas to mail a C&D letter.

What's next? The words light saber to be used only with permission? I believe Monster cable tried this and failed or is failing.
