how do people cope with their social life when working in shifts?
I pretty much can't find my friends to hangout anymore.
And whenever I have off day, I either sleep or be with my family.
The pay is good but it's sucking the fun out of my life.
Whoa, just discovered the DuPont 12 Hour Rotating Shift.
That's awesome. I would totally work that if I had a choice.
I feel your pain. Its lonely.
And my family lives on the opposite side of the country. Aggravates some other things too.
We work holidays too, so when all my friends here are having BBQs or parties, I'm at work. Slowly, I get dropped from all the invites because I'm never able to attend . . .
I was an engineer in a semiconductor company once where they did 12 hour shifts. Sometimes it wasn't bad, but overall I prefer a normal M-F 9-5 type dealio.
The shift I worked mostly was 7a-7p Th-Sat one week, then Wed-Sat the next, and then repeat. Working saturdays was the worst.
OUch! I did something like that, same rotation but 100 days straight. At the change day you'd go home for 8 and back in. On the third change you got 32 hours off, woohoo!I worked a "4 turns" schedule to cover 24/7 production, for 31yrs.
I worked 8hrs a shift but was continously changing from days>afternoons>midnights with my two days (48hrs) off constantly changing every three weeks.
I saw it take massive tolls on marriages, increased alcohol/drug comsumption, and many missed family functions/holidays.
