Working for Wal-Greens

episodic

Lifer
My wife is looking for a cashier type job. Does anyone know if you can be 'just' a cashier at Wal-greens - or if you have to stock shelves as well. . .

She has a knee problem and heavy duty shelf stocking is something she can't do. We just moved and she is in the middle of looking. Just curious if anyone worked there or ever did work there and knew.

I have no information on this, but I wanted to say that Walgreens is not like Wal Mart, there's no space/dash/asterisk/divider in the name.

If she has a knee problem, she should stay away from cashier jobs IMO episodic.

Is this a joke?

Not at all Baked, cashiers generally have to stand for long periods of time and constantly twist and turn, regardless if they are bagging the items or not.

It is the bending and being on the floor on her knees kinda thing - think grocery shelf stocking on the bottom shelf kinda stuff that she really can't do. She says standing doesn't bother her.

I've worked as a Walgreens cashier for the past few summers. Occasionally I'll be asked to do a shift as a stock person, but 90% of the time I worked as a cashier. I've also worked in the pharmacy a few times, but that was by my own request so that I could train to be a pharmacy tech.

I know at cvs you wont, just tell the manager when you get hired that she has a knee problem and she would like to only work photolab and registers

CVS is always looking for people like that

If you have an Aldi near you they pay $10.80 starting, and you get to sit on a barstool and customers bag themselves.

Unfortuantly no CVS and no rite-aide - I'll tell her to put in for photo clerk or cashier and hope for the best

Service Clerk
As a Service Clerk, you provide friendly, courteous and efficient service to Walgreens customers. In addition, Service Clerks are responsible for:

# Entering sales on the cash register and customer service
# Merchandising, store inventory and product ordering
# Maintaining store signage and displays

At least mosh does.

My Supervisor's Mother&Father-in-Law both work for different Walgreens locations.

It's a good place to work according to them....I've only seen the cashiers ring stuff up and tidy up the store. Because so many of their employees are female (sometimes older ladies), they tend to hire folks specifically to stock the shelves. She'll probably be ok...but might want to mention the injury when she applies.

The walgreens I live near has anti fatigue mats the cashiers stand on. That, coupled with shoe inserts and soft tennis shoes really make a comfortable cashiering experience.

i work at walgreen., cashiers here, while their primary task is ringing customers, are expected to help maintain the store, IE putting away "gobacks" organizing shelves and helping to stock the shelves. no real heavy lifting. it'd be hard due to knee problems though, just being on her feet all day would surly agrivate it. as SLAG said, there are small things to help aleiviate the pain
