working for corporations

I was considering working for a particular corporation but when I started to look at what they wanted to know about me I felt that an invasion of my privacy was about to take place, and I changed my mind. What's with all the questions? Do you really need to know these things:

--complete accounting of whereabouts for the past 20years, including time taken off of work for personal reasons, such as: death in the family, etc.
--have you ever smoked marijuanna?
--will you submit to mitocondrial DNA testing?
--high school transcripts and disciplinary records
--political affiliation, including whether you attended any rallys, marches
--are you a member of any non-profit organizations? which ones?
--have you ever been in a car accident, violations? How many speeding or parking tickets have you had?
--have you ever been arrested?
--have you ever collected unemployment insurance?
--how many vehicles have you owned in the past 10 years?
--have you ever had unprotected sex with a member of the same gender?

etc.

Is it just me or are these things irrelevant to any job?

many of those questions are not lawful. Unless they were gonna pay me an exhorbinant amount of money i would tell them to stick it.

Ditto.

But I've learned today from ATOT that if a corporation has a reason to, it's allgood, regardless.

I'm pretty sure they can't ask you to answer most of those questions.
"political affiliation, including whether you attended any rallys, marches" and "have you ever had unprotected sex with a member of the same gender?" are especially not their business.

What kind of company is this? A front for the church of Xenu?

i call shens unless you name the corporation so we can tell you why those questions are valid. this is just like that one guy who was donating blood by lying on the questionairre about taking part in homosexual acts.

Unfortunately, refuse to answer any of the questions, illegal as they may be, and your application gets filed in the "round file", or put at the bottom of the stack, never to be seen again...
Corporations get away with stuff like this, because they own the government...it's no longer "We the People", but "We the Corporations" that matters in the USA, since they control so much of the money that gets paid/donated to the various political machines...

This is P&N...

abortion clinic may ask this legitimately. they don't want an HIV infected pro-lifer working at an abortion clinic.

Hey man, I wasn't trying to make this "political"

It seems like everything is "political" these days, unless it is bland and trivial.

Still, I find it highly unprobable that abortion clinics only employ people who didn't attend (anti-war/greenpeace/etc.) rallies, or happen to have "proper" political affiliations.
That list of questions is as absurd as it gets.

EEOC types of discrimination[

Age Discrimination
Disability Discrimination
Equal Pay and Compensation Discrimination
National Origin Discrimination
Pregnancy Discrimination
Race-Based Discrimination
Religious Discrimination
Retaliation
Sex-Based Discrimination
Sexual Harassment
Wikipedia: Employment Non-Discrimination Act
The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is a proposed U.S. federal law that would prohibit discrimination against employees by their employers on the basis of sexual orientation.
more eeoc goodness
It also provides that certain personnel actions can not be based on attributes or conduct that do not adversely affect employee performance, such as marital status and political affiliation.

Can you please tell us what corporation asks these questions on their application?

riight...what does that have to do with anything. but if someone puts "attended anti-abortion rally" it's suspect. that's what they would look for. not to see they are hippy.

When I went to management class, one thing they taught us about was BFOQ's or Bona Fide Occupational Qualification questions. From what I learned, I'd say that many of those questions are not legal to ask.

Besides... Unless you're working for the CIA, most of those questions are none of the employers damn business.

ramble ramble ramble blah blah blah i remember the good ole days

Is this for some sort of high security clearance job?? That's the only reason I can even think of for asking some of those questions. Equifax was kind of strict on what they wanted me to tell them but that was AFTER they made a job offer.

The correct answers to the corporate quiz:

--complete accounting of whereabouts for the past 20years, including time taken off of work for personal reasons, such as: death in the family, etc. Terrorist training camp <Afganistan>, Hanging with my buddy Saddam <Iraq>
--have you ever smoked marijuanna? Many times, got any good stuff?
--will you submit to mitocondrial DNA testing? Who hasn't?!
--high school transcripts and disciplinary records School is for suckers
--political affiliation, including whether you attended any rallys, marches Pride Parade, NRA, DNC, KKK
--are you a member of any non-profit organizations? which ones? I only donate to for profit charities
--have you ever been in a car accident, violations? How many speeding or parking tickets have you had? 10, 23, 49 but only with company vehicles, so it's ok
--have you ever been arrested? Often
--have you ever collected unemployment insurance? Yes, but I've never been unemployed
--how many vehicles have you owned in the past 10 years? Street racing?...many
--have you ever had unprotected sex with a member of the same gender? Only when bored at work

I'd leave them all blank and when handing it in, tell them that if they don't hire me anyway, they'll hear from my lawyer. Then, while working for them, I'll burn all of my vacation days jobhunting for another job. Fvck that sh!t.
