Thats kinda funny, I'm in basically the exact same position, except I like my job.

I'm 16, I work at the local comptuer store as the only employee, get about $10-12/hour (technically its 9, but he always gives me bonuses for some reason) and I'm hired as a contractor, or something like that. I got my license last wednesday and I'd applied for a job at our tiny airport this summer but I didnt' get the job; I'd like to become a pilot (although not as a job). I think I'm going to try for the airport job this summer even though it pays only $7/hour, the experience might be worth it.

How does he get customers in the story if its so uncleanly and disgusting?

He tries to keep the front part tidy but when you go in the room that I'm in all the time, there's all dust and CD's and random computer parts all over the place. I don't know how the people that come in stand the smell...some days it's worse than others though.

You think that is bad... my second job in High School was with a BioTech company (I was 17), I worked in the sterilization lab. I got paid $8/hr.

It turned out that they were having problems outputting product because the processing materials weren't sterile enough or they didn't have enough processing materials. I worked with two other people in the department. One was always pulling "sick" days on Mondays because of over drinking, the other didn't do any work (both got fired later on). They were lazy as crap and I ended doing most of the work. We worked with two Autoclave a Heating Oven and a Sterile room. By the end of the month on the next monthly report, the company found that productivity had shot up about 30% and they had made an added profit of 200 grand. I was the only change in the group.

Guess what I found out during the end of my time there. Those two lazy @$$es were being paid about $14/hr (more than likely because they were older). :| Pissed the heck out of me.
Oh well, the company kept hiring me whenever I had vacation time because of it, and I got raises (although they were miniscule).

Where are you located, I work in a computer shop too. However, I've only been there nine months, and am now at 10.50/hr, with tons of perks. (Deep discounts on parts and such). I didn't like my job at the beginning. But I duked it through, and I learned to love my employer, and they love the fact that I keep selling.

lol, i'm 16, heres my summer job for $7/hr (could be more this summer)...

sit on my ass most of the time, do simple tasks (like walk to a computer lab and install operating systems while watching movies on a laptop when waiting) and leave 10-20 mins early every day

sometimes, when we know theres nothing to do, we go watch movies on the giant projector

32 hrs/wk

If I'm still there when he goes to France this Christmas break (hopefully I won't be), I'll demand $10/hr or $15/hr or else I quit on the spot. He expects me to work 9-7 or some crazy bull for the WHOLE WEEK...er...58hrs? I don't think so. Especially not on my Christmas vacation.

You really should get a raise. For unskilled labor, I can somewhat understand paying a high school student minimum wage. But for somehting like fixing computers (which takes a lot of knowledge and which few people can do) you deserve much more than minimum wage. Especially if you have to suffer through your boss ...

Story of the Saturday!

The boss said a snotty remark or someting to me today. I was working on this guy's laptop who was having problems with his DVD burner. Boss comes in and asks me whats going on. I tell him it burned it but its not reading it. He doesn't comprehend and tells me to show him. So I do but then he tells me to move over and he was going to work on it. I say ok and go on to work on backing up another lady's hard drive. He gets mad at me and says something like "forget this, DONT TOUCH IT (starting to raise his voice). So I said back to him "alright jeez" and backed off. He turns around an looks at me and says something like "you should be paying attention over here, that isn't important right now" in his raised tone. What topped it all off was when I said "you don't have to have an attitude" in a calmer voice than what he was talking in. So he starts YELLING at me saying "This is my fvcking business" and "dont you tell me that I have a bad attitude" and "I think you have a bad attitude" blah blah blah. At this point, I'm shaken up as a normal kid who's scared of someone yelling at them would be. I was starting to sweat and my hands and legs were shaking. I was kinda scared I guess. Now I know I'm not the best employee in the world right now but when I went in there in June to ask for a job, I wanted to fix computers and I was ready to work. My attitude after being with him has gone so far downhill its not even funny. But for him to yell at me like that I think is absurd. The last time he did it was when I formatted a hard drive with the Windows XP CD instead of the floppy drive. He came in yelling about how "its my fvcking business and if I tell you to format with floppy drive you dow what I say" blah blah blah. And also today he had the nerve to tell me that I HAD to listen to him becasue "HE KNOWS WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT" But only 20min before I told him there was a document in the My Documents folder in Windows XP and he didn't know where My Documents was. OH! He was on the phone with Expedia today trying to rectify a problem with his flights to France in December (he THINKS I'm working the WHOLE 58hr week - LOL!). The guy can't find his email address so my boss is yelling into the phone K - KILO D-DAVID U-URAGUAY (LOL!...most random thing ever)...and the rest of it. The poor guy still couldn't find it so my boss went and said to him "Oh screw you let me talk to your boss". With those exact words. Later in the day he goes and tells me I have a bad attitude....some stuck up SOB he is!

Thank you for reading my rather entertaining story. I make my mom laugh when I tell her the "work story of the day."

So far I've only read your side of story. Nonetheless, this guy sound like he is easily agitated (could be due to stress; perhaps business is not profitable or his personal life is messed up). You shouldn't have to take his attitude. It's important to keep in mind though if you feel that he is already agitated/in bad mood, don't make any comment that could potentially make it worse. Just say okay/alright. If it's always like this, he is take advantage of fact that this is your first job. Work else where as most adult in the same situation wouldn't stay on the job.
Look else where, perhaps in retail during the holiday season. But it's a good story to tell.

You should be thankful for what you have. If an employee (especially some punk kid) acted that way toward me, I'd have fired him on the spot. He's obviously not a very nice or intelligent man, but you can expect him to go out of business sooner or later. Ask for a fat raise ASAP, and if he doesn't give it to you then just leave and work at McDonalds or something.
