I'd say that's better than cleaning out a men's bathroom since that's usually more filthy.

Tampons.

It's all part of the process. Learn from this experience. My first job was working for a friend's mom who owned a sweatshop business (heh). I kept track of their entire inventory on a dinosaur running DOS. I've dealt with mean, smelly, and dishonest people (they stole my lunch and the containers they came in a few times). They paid me $4.25/hr; I was 14.

Yes, I still curse myself for taking such a job, but in the end, it helps me appreciate the one I have now. Good luck to you! Btw, get another job if you can. Most people can deal with lousy pay, but a smelly environment? That's something else.

Funny Facts about my work:

1. He worked at IBM for "15 years" and doesn't know half of the things that I do sometimes. If he doesn't know something, he starts getting mad and swearing at it if it doesn't work.

2. My mom and I have an ongoing joke about how we clean the bathrooms at IBM for 15 years and his ego got so big he thinks he can run a computer store now.

3. He says quote: "We don't bullsh!t here" to customers, yet charges them $179 to reformat their computer. Hense the reason why I hate calling people and lying to them and telling them it's worth it to stay with us and spend $231.43 including Norton Internet Security 2005.

:) Funny facts part 1 complete....Lemme see if I can think of some more.

don't we all do that (see bold text)?

as to the guys talking about cleaning bathrooms, i've heard stories about women's bathrooms being 10x worse than men's bathrooms. especially at my previous job.

my 1st real job i got at 15. before that i would mow lawns over the summer. i used to have like 5 lawns a week i would mow. 1st real job was working in the kitchen of a nursing home. cleaning dishes of the old people, serving the old people, stuff like that. start out at $4.75 an hour and was making a little over $7.50 when i quit 4 years later for my 2nd job.
some of the stuff that came back into the kitchen to be washed was not pretty.

QFT. I'm amazed at the number of people who wear their "PC Tech" badge on their sleeve and act like they're the only ones that are in the business. It's like a car mechainc, everyone knows how to do it, some of us just don't have the time
It used to matter like 10 years ago, long before this kid even knew what a computer was.

Can you even legally work over 40 hours a week if you're under 18? I know at my old job they wouldn't let the under 18 people work more than 40 hours.

um, call IRS get lots a cash?

And do you have any certs? 3 years of home grown computer expierence doesn't mean jack crap. I'm A+ Net+ and security+ certified and I make $10 an hour.

all those certs and only 10/hr.
how wonderful

That would be pretty good if he's 16 like the OP. I started out at $5.15/hr as a dishwasher at a steakhouse when I was 15. Made ~$7/hr when I was in college working at a fast food joint. It wasn't until I got an internship that I started bringing in some dough albeit only at $11.50/hr.

I'm 18 years old and have my own place. Its okay actually for michigan, I don't want for cash, but if I was making like $15 an hour I'd be where I should be.

Michigan labor laws don't allow minors to work more than 40 hours a week. Dunno how it is with other states.

Actually, you're allowed to work up to 48 hrs a week in the summer, but you're limited to a mere 18 hrs a week during the school year.

Really?? Hot damn... I know a lot of people who were working a lot more than 18 hours during the school year. *rubs chin*

Do you know if there's any labor law that prevents minors from working past 10PM?

If you're 15 or 16, yeah. 17 is allowed to 11 pm.

Used to do 45 hour weeks during summer while in highschool few years ago, so I will vouch for that. However, bosses really got angry when anyone broke 40 anyways.

During the school year though I worked way more than 18. Pretty much 35-40 during school year. 35-45 during the summer.

18 hrs a week during school year? Hmm...I dunno about that. Even some of my friends worked 40 hours a week during highschool.

It's true, man... Women are ANIMALS in the public bathrooms! They throw that feminine hygiene junk EVERYWHERE :disgust:

LMFAO

True statement though. My friend at his job was only Layer 2(i think?) guy there, with CCNA, and A+. Was getting paid $9 something all through highschool. All the other employees they hired(because they were older, some without even college degrees), got started out at $12+. No certifications or anything, and pretyt much just did nothing...

$179 to reformat a PC isn't bad. I used to work for a company that was $75/hour. 3 hours minimum to reinstall the OS.

The NIS part is bull...no really, it's ridiculous. NIS is a joke...YOU WANT SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE YOUR COMPUTER RUN LIKE IT HAS NIS ON IT??? GO GET YA SOME SPYWARE!!!

I have never in all my life seen a shop suggest NIS...where is this place...

I worked as a PC-Tech/Network Engineer at that place. Do PC repair, install some servers in a cluster, run some cable, check your highly availables, VPNs and tunneling through the town's fiber, and AD/Exchange/GP/KCC/OWA server work....

Now out of all those things, PC repair was the LEAST impressive on my resume...

jjoyner, it's in North Providence, RI. And yes, NIS makes computers run like CRAP. I've got Antivirus on my home PC here and on my laptop but thats because I run the LEAST amount of programs as possible. Plus all of my computers have 512MB memory so it handles it decently.

$179 for reformatting a system IS nuts. Any good PC support business will have Ghost images of all of the basic system configurations that they've built, and it should only take an hour to restore from one of those. Spend another hour updating the security patches and drivers, and you're all set.
