Working at Wal-Mart

I worked at Walmart (North Brunswick NJ #2003) 2 summers, it was terrible... The scheduling is done by morons, they make you work closing one day, and morning the next... and if you complain they say "tough sh1t". You say you have a college degree, I suggest you work there temp, and find a job elsewhere.

If you want a life you will quit your job at walmart, as working there will become your life.
they have an erratic schedule that makes planning anything impossible, becasue its changeing every week, and your days off are never the same....

I won't shop there anymore.
I'm sorry you feel that is the only place to get a job where you are.

Buy "Made in USA" products and shop at the Independant Businessman in your area.
The lifestyle you save may be your own.

Yeah -- Wally World is big business. Now, if I can somehow move up the food chain. I actually have a 4 year business degree; a fact that wasn't brought up in the interview. I suppose I can bring it up in my next evaluation. If I don't keel over in exhaustion first. 😉

What the fvck are you doing at Wal-Mart?!

I'd also like to know. 😕

Same here. could you go any lower?

Yes. Yes you could.

Did you see that spread? It really wasnt that great. Its amazing that out of 1,000,000 employees or whatever in the US alone they couldnt even find 5 girls that were hot 😉

I've worked at walmart over 3 years now. I've worked in many different positions. Your job will suck, thats just how it is. Our store has a 4-1 unloading crew so those hours take a little bit to get used to. I've worked garden center, hardware, toys, paint, domestics, housewares, furniture, sporting goods, electronics, grocery ics, meat, and may other jobs in there.

Basic breakdown on management is that its something like 33k/year salaray for an assistent manager. You get trained for like 6 weeks and then you become a walmart slave. They give you a few choices of stores to choose from and you move to one or you out of a job. They usually work 5 days a week and shifts vary from 9-14 hours. During Christmas and inventory you will be working 12+ hour days everyday for sure.

The next level of management is a co-manager. There are usually 2-4 per store or sometimes none if they are shorthanded on mangers. BTW, they are very short handed in management right now. CO-managers make a decent amount actually but its no roadtrip getting to this level.

Next level is store manager and they make pretty darn good money. Bonuses can be crazy amounts and they vary on how good your store does. I do not know how much a district manager makes but I have a general idea. You must have no personality to be a district manager it seems to me.

If you have any questions, feel free to pm or email me and I will get back to you.

Man when I saw that I LOL'd so hard I think I must have burnt 200 calories 😉

Thanks for the posts. I continue training tomorrow. I know that I'm capable of more in life than just being an unloader, but I need the immediate job while I continue a job search. I'm on the 4-1 shift, so I should be able to fit in interviews during the day, or perhaps an internship. My problem is, I was preoccupied during college and really didn't look too hard for a professional job while I was in school. A bad decision in retrospect, since I'm now stuck in an in-between phase. I worked at a small business gourmet grocery store during my school years, which really didn't lead to anything except frustration. It was fun while it lasted, but unfortunately I didn't want to be an assistant manager in an environment without a real future. In addition, I had some major life-changing events happen recently that sort of sucked the life out me for a few months. So now I'm at Wal-Mart! 🙂 I'll keep you updated.

Have fun, but stay busy looking for a better job. Don't get comfortable there, because Wal-Mart has definitely shown that providing a comfortable (or fair under the law for that matter) paycheck for its workers is NOT part of its mission.

I've heard actually heard that it takes a very long time for a full-time employee to become eligible for their benefits package (like 6 months or a year, as opposed to the more usual 30-90 days) and that it's neither generous, nor high-quality. I could be wrong though.

Watch out for the labor law abuses too, though I'm sure they're watching themselves these days with all the negative publicity they've been getting. Just be sure you're getting paid for every minute you're working, and if they tell you it's time to clock out because you're at 40 hours, but ask you to "quick finish up" any tasks off the clock, please politely tell them to shove it.

Oh, and seeing any hot/cute ladies working at (or shopping at, for that matter) Wal-mart is relatively rare in my experience.
