I personally think the retirement plan is a scam. Unlike 401k or 403b there is no real pot of cash with your name on it. It's a pot of money controlled by someone else and nothing more than an IOU built on hopes and dreams of future earnings and investment gains. My 410k and IRA are mine legally and only the tanking of the US economy will jeopardize them. A lot of union pension plans are going belly up or benefits are being cut now because lower cost non-union competitors are undercutting the legacy companies
