Like a StormTrooper I suppose! :p

LOL, reminds me of the scene in Clerks where they talk about the innocent construction workers on the Death Star.

Its weird movin from an 8-5 office job to a field job, it aint for everybody but I like it. I have been to some real bum-fvck places though out in the middle of nowhere for days and many times there is a bunch of heavy liftning required (them logging tools are heavy!). I just hate bein on call all the time though, plus havin to get sleep when/wherever I can out in the field.

What's it like? I might switch to a crazy job like that if I hate my life when I turn 30.

How is it for meeting new friends/women? I assume pretty bad. You pretty much a loner now?

Yeah she was cute, but I got a gf now. She cooked for me and everything tonight, it was awesome. Glad she can put up with me being gone all the time (I work 2 weeks on call, 1 week off).

I also gave the van to my brother as a present and bought a 93 honda accord in August :)

How is Halliburton? I'm graduating in Dec (BSEE) and I've thought about applying to Halliburton/KBR.

Thats the degree I have.

Basically it has its ups and downs. The ups are good pay, good benefits, and I like the schedule. The downs being the fact that you put in a lot of hours (like 100+ some weeks), being on call, and it is physically & mentally demanding. Sometimes engineers have to stay up for days at a time. Also the work can be very dirty, I have often gone home covered head to toe in mud and oil.

If you have any questions let me know, I work in the open hole logging department with the ESG group.

I'm in Rock Springs, Wyoming as a field engineer with another outfit. Halliburton has moved in here big time, as other oil and gas service companies have. There is a huge labor shortage here right now. Anyone who can pass a drug test and doesn't have a court date can get $20 an hour to start. That's just as a laborer. They are hiring a lot of instrumentation people also. With the overtime, the money is killer. Just say goodbye to any social life for a while though. That and winter in Wyoming. They are also building a labor camp about 70 miles east of here because it's tough to find a place to live.
